This position will provide professional educational services in Adult Basic Education (ABE) to Persons in our Care (PIOC) in order to meet their assessed individual academic needs. This includes facilitating and managing a classroom, providing instruction, and developing/maintaining a competency-based curriculum. This position will perform assessments and report on student progress. It will also monitor and manage student behavior, attend meetings, and work with other program areas as an inter-disciplinary team member. Salary Information This position is in pay schedule and range 13-04 with pay starting from $27.00/hour - $35.06/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required. This position may receive supplemental (add-on) pay adjustments for additional credits relevant to the position that are over and above the credits needed for certification. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU: Our long-term outcomes for the Adult Education Instructor would be to build relationships with all participants who come through our doors, encouraging and motivating students to be their best selves despite any barriers they may face. The Adult Education Instructor will work closely with the rest of the Adult Education Team and provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in mathematics, reading, science, and social studies GED concepts. The Adult Education Instructor will enroll and assess students as needed. The Adult Education Instructor will also monitor student progress on our online learning platform as well and assign practice GED tests as well as official GED tests and complete data entry and classroom attendance as needed. Responsibilities: The Adult Education Instructor is a key player within the Adult Education Team. With that said they will be given the tools and support needed to carry out and execute all the functions for the position in the best of their ability. Teach adult education concepts using instructional methods for the adult learner in a one-on-one, small group, and/or classroom setting. Develop lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students to increase academic skills. Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods to help students make learning gains. Travel off-site to multiple locations as needed for GED corrections instruction. Complete and maintain student attendance, records, and ensure timely data entry in accordance with the MAERS User Manual. Provide assistance and support to learners in the learning lab and by connecting learners to our online learning platform. Be motivational and inspiring to learners along their educational journey Ability to stay up-to-date on all documentation for local, state and federal levels. Conduct regular check-ins with learners to support retention efforts. Assist in the development of academic and other resources to enhance the program and adult learner success. Assist with participant outreach efforts to attract adult education students. Collaborate with the Michigan Works team to co-enroll students in supportive programs and connect them with employment opportunities. Assist adult education students in pursuit of a GED in a small group, individualized, or corrections education setting. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Valid Michigan Teaching Certification. 1+ year of classroom teaching experience. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and specific needs of adult learners Strong ability to teach literacy skills in both one-on-one to small group instruction Computer skills, experience with online learning platforms, Microsoft Word and Excel Organization and attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize tasks. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Familiarity with adult education. 3+ years of experience working with alternative education or "at-risk" populations. Experience with adult education practices and computer-based learning. Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Language Arts, or a related field. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times. WORK ENVIRONMENT: 20 hours per week: Monday-Thursday noon-5pm. Provides timely performance feedback to students. * Collaborates with other members of the staff in reviewing and analyzing performance data and planning instructional goals and strategies to meet the learning needs of all students. * Demonstrates competence in the application of differentiated instruction, mastery learning, and in designing meaningful student learning activities. * Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular work day when requested to do so under reasonable terms. * Communicates effectively, appropriately, and in a timely manner with parents, students, staff members and administrators. * Works cooperatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators. * Assists other teachers in learning best practice through modeling and teamwork. * Attends and participates in faculty, grade level, department, and other school district meetings. * Maintains accurate, complete, and correct electronic records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. * Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. * Accepts and shares team/committee leadership responsibilities and supports team recommendations and decisions. * Adheres to the standards, dispositions, knowledge, and performances developed by the Indiana Professional Standards Board pertaining to the areas of certification. * Demonstrates continuous professional growth through a program of collaboration, independent study, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. * Participates in and supports student achievement improvement initiatives. * Contributes to the School Improvement and Accountability Plan. * Completes required reports or electronic information/data entry in a timely manner (e.g., assessments, report cards, grades, attendance, progress reports, etc.). * Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. * Maintains punctuality by arriving at school each day by the appointed time. * Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, speech, and dress. * Completes other tasks as assigned by the superintendent or principal. Teachers with Instructional Assistants In conjunction with the Instructional Assistant, the teacher(s) with whom the Instructional Assistant works, will develop a schedule describing the type of educationally-related activities in which the Instructional Assistant will engage and the duration of the activities.
