RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works under the direct supervision of faculty members and performs routine standardized laboratory work requiring close attention to detailed procedures in the preparation and basic maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, inventory and requisition of supplies, assisting faculty in supervision of students assigned to laboratories, and other related duties. Is employed on an individual academic term basis.
MAJOR DUTIES:
* Assist faculty members with classroom instruction, exams, record keeping, adherence to safety procedures, tracking attendance and other miscellaneous tasks related to instruction
* Tutor or mentor students
* Perform laboratory maintenance
* Clean labs as needed
* Obtain materials needed for classes, including texts and other materials
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to manage and instruct Laboratory and Monitoring Branch personnel in the performance of duties for the Industrial Waste/Pretreatment Program, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Monitoring Program,
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Ensures the daily plant operations meets or exceeds the state and federal regulations (EDP/EPA); analyzes the plant s operational data and plant compliance monitoring data; and performs periodic microscopic examination of the activated sludge.
Ensures operators strictly follow the standard operating procedures established by the plant management and EPA; and regularly inspects the plant equipment and the plant laboratory.
Trains and instructs the plant operators in the proper equipment operation and maintenance and troubleshoots any deviation out of the ordinary; revises the standard operating procedures of the plant as new equipment is introduced; maintains files, records readings and logs; and ensures accuracy of recorded information.
Schedules the tasks and the training of the plant operators; and schedules and coordinates the weekly safety meeting.
Confers with engineers, vendors, and other managers regarding the efficiency of the plant operation and maintenance; and attends weekly planning meetings with upper management and engineering firms.
Makes requisitions of chemicals, equipment, and supplies for the plant operation; maintains daily acquisition and inventory of chemicals; and performs a daily review of the calibration of the plant measuring equipment.
Evaluates periodically the work performance of the operators; keeps record of the work performance of the plant and equipment operators; designs forms and check sheets for plant operations; and designs bench sheets for daily laboratory procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or a related field required; five years of experience in chemical or biological analysis or related field, to include two years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; and must possess and maintain a State of Georgia Wastewater Laboratory License.
