Under broad supervision, the Paralegal provides assistance and coordination in preparing and conducting research to support a legal proceeding, to formulate a defense, or to initiate legal or administrative action. Drafts and prepares legal documents for review.
Assists legal offices with scheduling hearings, appointments and interviews.
Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas.
Calls or contacts witnesses, attorneys, and other legal parties.
Compiles and prepares legal documents such as subpoenas, briefs, pleadings, appeals, decisions, and certificates of service.
Coordinates office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.
Coordinates response to interrogatories and other legal requests.
Gathers and analyzes data, statutes, decisions, legal articles, and documents.
Investigates facts of cases, evidence and applicable case law to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.
May manage record retention program and/or special projects.
Provides instruction and assistance in conducting legal research.
Responds to outside inquiries as authorized.
Reviews legal publications and performs data base searches to identify laws and court decisions relevant to pending cases or issues.
Schedules and participates in hearings between parties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of experience as a legal assistant in a legal environment; or certificate from a paralegal training program and two (2) years of experience as a legal assistant in a legal environment; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Paralegal 2 (LET031) or position equivalent.

Summary: The purpose of this position is to perform secretarial work associated with providing administrative support in a legal office environment and processing documentation and information relating to an assigned department.

Provide secretarial support in a legal office environment for an assigned department/division; processes a variety of documentations associated with department operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
Provides secretarial support for attorneys, officials, and/or staff of assigned department; assists with preparation of legal documents and maintenance of records; screens telephone calls, mail, emails, and other communications and initiates appropriate action/response; composes, types, edits, or proofreads correspondence; records and/or transcribes dictation; maintains calendars and schedules meetings, appointments, interviews, or other activities; coordinates travel arrangements, accommodations, conference registrations, or related plans for department staff.
Attends and assists attorneys in court. Serves as backup coverage to other employees within the department as needed.
Performs reception functions; answers telephone calls and greets visitors; ascertains nature of business, directs callers/visitors to appropriate personnel, and records/relays messages; initiates and returns calls as necessary.

Operate a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, email, or other programs; performs basic maintenance of office equipment, such as replacing toner, drums, paper; coordinates service/repair activities as needed.
Maintain confidentiality of departmental issues and documentation. Take, pass, and maintain security, awareness, and integrity training with the Georgia Crime Information Center.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Experience: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in criminal justice, legal or paralegal studies, office administration, and personal computer operations; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving court operations/procedures, office management, customer service, record management, and personal computer operations.
Required Certificates/Licenses: Requires possession and maintenance of valid State of Georgia Notary Public certification. Operation of Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) system requires possession of GCIC Terminal Operator certification. Valid Driver's License is required.

The Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit civil law firm, seeks a full time Outreach Paralegal. The successful candidate will be highly organized, able to work independently and as part of a team, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and have a passion for serving low-income Georgians. He/she must have extensive experience with Microsoft Office, working proficiently in Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Responsibilities
The Outreach Paralegal will work with the elder population in the Columbus region, performing the following tasks:
1. Prepare and present community education sessions to senior groups, or initiate communication with and arrange for other legal staff to present these sessions, providing administrative support for these sessions;
2. Complete monthly and quarterly grant reports;
3. Provide administrative and case work support for cases for legal workers in the Columbus Office;
4. Would represent clients at administrative law hearings under the supervision of an attorney;
5. Maintain MailChimp site and client emailing lists;
6. Attend fairs, expos and other community events;
7. Prepare and distribute community education materials.

GLSP offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to management approval and completion of a probationary employment period.
