Part-time Academic Professional Tutor is responsible for ensuring that students receive persistent, proactive, tutoring, mentoring, and learning support throughout their enrollment in Lansing Community College, with a focus on learning outcomes for student success - retention, persistence, and completion. Work assignments may be scheduled on campus Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with evening and weekend assignments during Fall and Spring semesters to best serve students. They will participate in department training, tutor training and professional development, mentoring and annual peer reviews. Professional Tutors may be a liaison for academic programs in assigned subject areas and/or career communities. In all duties this position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and colleagues, in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and be fully committed to the mission and values of Lansing Community College and adherence to the community college philosophy.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in the field(s) of: Computer Information Technology or related field.
Tutoring experience, or supplemental instruction, or learning assistant, or teachingassistant, or academic coaching, or teaching experience.
Experience using Microsoft Office Applications with proficiency using Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Available to work on campus a minimum of 12 hours up to 30 hours per week throughout the academic year, including evening and weekend assignments Fall and Spring semesters.

Position Summary
Floating TeachingAssistants serve as an integral part of the teaching team for AppleTree students. During the school day, School Aides provide instructional supports and implement classroom activities either in the absence of assigned teaching staff or on a daily basis, when coverage is needed. School Aides are generally not assigned to a dedicated classroom but float as needed throughout the campus or between campuses as needed. School Aides instructional training alongside their teaching team and use their knowledge of the development of young children, the ways in which young children learn and scientifically based practice to support the social, emotional and cognitive development of young children.
During the Extended Day Program, Floating TeachingAssistants may plan for and provide instruction to students enrolled in Before Care and/or Extended Day programming and serve as on-site Group Leader for Extended Day Team Members.
If no instructional supports are needed, the Floating TeachingAssistant may support the School Operations Specialist and/or Principal in the operations of the school such as front desk support, assisting with events, meals and other operational tasks. Supports with instructional activities for the school, during both regular and extended day
Implements all aspects of the Every Child Ready instructional model with fidelity when substituting for absent teachers. This may include:

Requirements:
Able to teach at multiple sites within a 40 minute drive (one site per week)
Instructors must be at least 21 years of age
Current teaching certification or experience competing in college level mock trial, Model UN, or debate preferred
Comfortable working with a group of 20 students independently
Government, history, debate, ELA, and social studies teachers strongly encouraged to apply
Experience coaching middle or high school academic teams highly preferred
Available to teach multiple weeks throughout the summer
This is a seasonal position
Rate: $20/hr - $25/hr

Summary:
The TeachingAssistant will run a weekly one-hour discussion section and be available to talk to students in one of the seven sections of Individual Freedom v. Authority offered in Spring 2026. They will consistently meet with the course's professor to discuss class and coordinate section topics throughout the year.
Essential Functions:

* Meet with the course's professor to discuss class and coordinate section topics.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
* Part-time.
* 5 scheduled hours per week.
Salary Range:
* $17.95 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
* Having previously taken Individual Freedom v. Authority (GOVT 105).
* Good understanding of the main issues of political philosophy.
