The Opportunity
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Experience, the TeachingAssistant will play an important role in facilitating the academic components of CFSIs Semester in the City Program by offering classroom and grading support for our two classes, Becoming a Problem Solver and Social Innovators Toolbox. As an important member of SITCs instructional team, the TeachingAssistant will support CFSIs mission to educate and inspire the next generation of problem solvers by helping us deliver high-quality instruction that enhances and strengthens the experiential learning gained in the Internship component of the SITC program.
The TeachingAssistant will be responsible for classroom support, grading, LMS management, and individualized student support and coaching. This is an ideal opportunity for an emerging educator who is passionate about experiential learning and social impact.
This position is an in-person role that requires the candidate to be able to work from our office in downtown Boston on Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings. This position is a term-limited, part-time position for the Spring 2026 academic semester with an expected commitment of 8 hours per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend all sessions of the Becoming a Problem Solver and Social Innovators Toolbox courses
Provide instructional support, including:
Taking and tracking attendance
Supporting absent students in obtaining access to notes and materials
Monitoring classroom discussion
Creating and facilitating small group breakout sessions
Creating and/or sourcing content and class materials
Assist the instructional team with Canvas LMS management, including:
Creating and uploading weekly learning plans and supplementary content
Set-up and maintenance of student accounts, courses, and assignments
Support instructors with grading and assignment submissions and review
Host weekly office hours to review learning plans and respond to student questions
Provide individualized academic coaching to some students, including responding to questions and offering support, encouragement, and guidance to support success in the program
QUALIFICATIONS & MINDSET
You have some experience as a teachingassistant or tutor at a high school or college level.
You have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and are attending or have graduated from college.
You are passionate about experiential education and interested in the social impact and/or higher education sector.
You have excellent attention to detail and the ability to effectively organize and prioritize.
You have outstanding interpersonal skills and have the ability to connect with people and provide supportive and informative answers to questions.

About College for Social Innovation
College for Social Innovation (CFSI) brings together colleges and social sector organizations to create fully-credited experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful, accessible, and life-changing. Our college students, referred to as Social Innovation Fellows, build skills and a professional network that helps to position them to become the next generation of problem solvers for humanitys tough challenges. Students are placed in a semester-long internship (400 hours) and also take skill-building and reflection classes twice a week as part of a diverse Semester in the City cohort.
College for Social Innovation recently launched the 19th semester of its Semester in the City program and its 5th semester of its Semester for Impact program, having grown from a pilot cohort of 14 students in Fall 2016 to 61 students in Fall 2025 and an anticipated 75 students in Spring 2026. Overall, we have enrolled almost 800 students from 20 colleges and achieved strong initial results. We are now adding additional college partners and are looking to further build an innovative and unique educational experience that can add value for students and their home colleges while building a bigger, better, and more diverse talent pipeline for the social sector.
In the next four years, we look to create a nationally recognized curriculum and instructional delivery model that generates strong results while growing to serve 250+ students per year through Semester in the City, Semester for Impact, and a planned new two-year public service college slated to launch in 2027 or 2028. Ultimately, we aim to build a movement to make it common for millions of college students -- representing the full diversity of the nation -- to gain access to careers in the fast-growing social sector.
