GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Teacher, Long Term On-Site Substitute provides a high quality, personalized education program for students using
the Aspire approach, in classrooms when the regular classroom teacher is not available. This role will support long term
onsite sub assignments and will work at one specific school site and is considered to be a "constant" in terms of the staff
at their school site and fills in for any position at the school site that is needed on a daily basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Follows classroom systems/procedures established by regular classroom teacher, and manages student behavior
to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
2. Reinforces a culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students
3. Implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards, Aspire Instructional
Guidelines, and teacher plans for substitutes
4. Assesses students regularly in accordance with Aspire guidelines and teacher plans for substitutes and refines
classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student
5. Collaborates with Aspire team members to improve own and others' instructional practices; shares best
practices
6. Actively participates in professional development activities as requested by principals and RVP, including:
training sessions and working with lead teacher, principal, instructional coaches
7. Provides regular classroom teachers with timely information on classroom activities and student progress
8. Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance
with Aspire procedures
9. Collaborates with regular classroom teachers, other team members and outside service providers to address
learning challenges in accordance with individual student plans
10. Schedule own coverage of regular classroom teachers' classrooms, according to priorities set by RVP; track work
schedule
11. Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards,
policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
12. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

JOB SUMMARY
Teaching Associate will teach one or more 2-unit lab section.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
This position involves preparing a syllabus and assignments, creating lessons and class activities, attending class weekly for the duration of the semester, grading assignments, holding weekly office hours, and responding to student communication in a timely manner. Teaching Associates will also work closely with the full-time faculty members teaching the 3-unit lecture portion of the class to make sure the lecture and lab coincide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a student in the graduate program in the Department of Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies.

Be enrolled in good standing as a classified graduate studen of the graduate program for CAFS.
Maintain academic eligibility throughout the employment period (enrolled, with 3.0 GPA or higher).
Be available to teach courses at time assigned.
Attend pre-teaching course planning sessions during the day the week before classes begin in Fall. Specific dates and times TBA.
Accept responsibility and have the ability to relate well to others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule (Academic Year):
AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
Schedule (Summer):
During the summer, we offer multiple two-week camps between June - August
Camp classes are held Monday-Friday for 3 hours a day, with both morning and afternoon classes
Campus Location:
This is an in-person position at our Irvine location
Candidates must be located in Irvine or the greater area and must be able to commute to our campus

POSITION
The Department of Human Communication Studies at CSU Fullerton invites applications for the position of Teaching Associate.
Well qualified graduate students are assigned Teaching Associate duties up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, and are assigned to work under the direct supervision of a faculty member in a course taught by the faculty member, including but not limited to courses in:
Public Speaking
Introduction to Communication Studies
Essentials of Argumentation
Forensics (speech and debate)
This is a pool of teaching associates for the department to draw on as necessary.
APPOINTMENTS REQUIRE ADMISSION AND GOOD STANDING IN THE HUMAN COMMUNICATION STUDIES GRADUATE PROGRAM.
ASSIGNMENTS ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED COURSE ASSIGNMENTS ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.
Teaching Associates may be assigned to course(s) in a maximum of 4 semesters.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies or related field or equivalent experience.
Must be enrolled in Human Communication Studies Master program
Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
Coursework or prior teaching experience in the particular course topic.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to those with significant teaching experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
Preference will also be given to those with relevant performance and professional experience.

COMPENSATION
All Teaching Associate appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.
Classification Range: $3,245 to $7,598 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $3,800
The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.
