This artist will paint photo environments, elements, and textures for matching into live action plates or standing as their own matte painting plates. MAIN DUTIES: The Digital Matte Painter creates environment, character, and FX concept art within feature film production timeline. They create photorealistic digital paintings using 2D and 3D techniques, and style frame and paint overs to establish the look of the sequence for other artist. They are also responsible for setup and apply 3D projection in Nuke and Maya, as well as create and publish slap-comp in Nuke. WHAT YOU BRING: The ideal candidate has expert working knowledge of Photoshop, Maya, Nuke and other applicable VFX software, and has prior working experience creating digital paintings of photo-realistic environments based on concept art and/or photo reference and will be able to demonstrate experience. They must possess a strong understanding of light, color and perspective and possess excellent artistic communication skills, as well as an excellent eye for detail. The Compositor is often given the most complex and demanding shots to complete. They are expected to be comp generalists who can handle a wide range of comp tasks from start to finish including but not limited to compositing live action and CG, blue/green screen keying, camera tracking, photoreal CG integration, set extensions with matte painting projections, complicated removals, beauty work, and paint/rotoscoping.
