POSITION PURPOSE:
Performs complex level work in repairing, maintaining, and programming elevators and chairlifts located within a Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) facilities. Provides technical specialist experience in the monitoring of construction and installation of new and replacement elevators and chairlifts at schools. Provides technical guidance and assistance to less skilled employees and assists in the training of employees. Ensures elevators and chairlifts are performing at their optimal efficiency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Extensive knowledge in servicing elevators and chairlifts;
Considerable knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel; Google Apps;
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
Ability to work independently and part of a team and complete tasks in the absence of clear direction;
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations;
Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance and repairs on elevator and chairlifts;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent;
Ten years of experience directly related to elevator and chairlift installation and repair;
Experience in servicing elevators and chairlifts, including software updates;
Experience with multiple elevator manufacturers;
An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold a valid Electrical License (SP-EL) and/or accredited certifications;
Within twelve months of employment complete safety training according to OSHA standards;
Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Factory certification by one or more elevator manufacturers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs complex level work in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting elevators and chairlifts within WCPSS.
Provides technical specialist experience in the monitoring of construction and installation of new and replacement elevators and chairlifts at all school facilities.
Provides technical guidance and assistance to less skilled employees and assists in the training of employees.
Ensures elevators and chairlifts are performing at their optimal efficiency.
Responds to assigned work orders relating to elevators and chairlifts; troubleshoots and ensures that the appropriate corrective measures are performed to provide a solution.
Replaces faulty or defective elevators and chairlifts.
Prepares and maintains records, work logs, and reports, as needed.
Adheres to laws, regulations, and requirements set forth in the WCPSS safety procedures/policies.
Maintains compliance and adherence to all safety procedures, occupational health practices, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in in an indoor and outdoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, hand/power tools, etc. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to seventy-five pounds of force. The work requires the ability to operate automotive equipment. Frequent exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and chemicals, moving parts, and inclement weather conditions.

What You'll Do:
Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
Assist in transporting vehicles from the annex lot to the shop for repairs.
Works closely with Mechanic from programming key fobs to modules, diagnosing communication issues, as well as basic damaged part replacements.
Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials and reports any deviations to management.
Documents all work performed on the repair order.
Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
Keeps shop area neat and clean.
Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect body shop operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Reports any safety issues immediately to management.

As the Roadside Assistance Technician, you will operate a high equipped vehicle for performing roadside assistance operations, such as accident management, abandoned vehicles tagging and minor assistances (tire change and provide fuel and/or water). A I-77 MP Traffic Management Center will be dispatching and assisting you during all events. You will also work in occasions with maintenance personnel, for providing them traffic control and other maintenance duties. You will receive a full training period and constant refreshers to ensure that the roadside assistance is performed on the safest way possible.
Functions key to success:
* Operates assigned vehicles (pick-ups) and 6-wheel trucks with mounted crash attenuators
* Inspects equipment for proper operating condition, makes minor repairs or adjustments, lubricates and assists in making repairs as required
* Excellent customer relationship and friendly approach to stranded vehicles
* Responds to traffic incidents, provides roadside assistance to motorists on I-77 between uptown Charlotte and Mooresville and available on-call after hours for emergency incident response, as needed
* Adapts easily to changes during the event and fast decision maker
* Performs miscellaneous duties, such as general traffic control, pavement repair, roadside assistance, pushing vehicles out of travel lanes and debris and animal carcasses removal
* Available on-call after hours for emergency maintenance service, as needed
* Performs miscellaneous maintenance on the I-77 Express Lanes Project as required.
* Performs miscellaneous building maintenance as required
* Any other job duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:
* Must possess a valid Driver's License. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required but the candidate should have the ability to obtain a CDL, if needed, in the future
* National Traffic Incident Management Responder Training Program (SHRP2 & TIM) and Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) NCDOT training will be preferred
* 0-3+ years of experience in general traffic control, and traffic management is desired
* Previous experience with roadside assistance vehicles such as emergency response and towing vehicles
* Basic knowledge of automotive mechanics
