POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the general supervision of the Senior Librarian, the TechnicalAssistant provides public-facing library support with a strong emphasis on customer service, technology assistance, and digital literacy. The position delivers hands-on instruction and troubleshooting support for library computers, databases, software applications, internet services, and emerging technologies to internal and external customers while helping ensure equitable access to digital resources. The TechnicalAssistant may serve as shift supervisor in the absence of senior staff and supports the County's mission of public access, digital equity, and community service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Service and Public Assistance:
* Assist patrons in person, by telephone, and via email with library services, policies, and procedures.
* Provide instruction and support in the use of library resources, including computers, Wi-Fi, printers, scanners, electronic devices, and digital collections.
* Deliver consistent, professional, and inclusive customer service to patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
Technology and Technical Support:
* Provide basic technical support to staff and patrons, including troubleshooting PCs, printers, and common network issues.
* Maintain branch computers, printers, and audiovisual equipment.
* Assist patrons with online catalogs, databases, internet navigation, apps, and emerging technologies.
Library Operations and Program Support:
* Perform opening and closing procedures and participate in daily library operations, including circulation desk coverage and shelving materials.
* Shelve library materials for approximately each shift and assist with general organization of collections.
* Under librarian supervision, assist with planning and delivering programs, including basic computer, digital literacy instruction and STEAM/STEM learning experiences.
* Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational initiatives including outreach and community education initiatives.
Supervision, Administration, and Other Duties:
* Act as Shift Supervisor when assigned.
* Perform related administrative, fiscal, or program support duties as required.
* Support countywide emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts as directed, serving as an emergency service worker during declared emergencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires good vision and hearing, with or without correction, and the ability to communicate clearly. Duties involve moderate physical effort with frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive shelving motions. The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, push a fully loaded book cart, reach above shoulder height, squat, and perform repetitive tasks. Use of both hands and fingers with dexterity is required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The position involves extended periods of sitting or standing and frequent use of computers and office equipment, which may result in eye strain or repetitive motion discomfort. The role requires regular participation in meetings and collaborative work, necessitating effective communication in shared spaces. Some areas may have elevated dust levels that could trigger allergies. No specialized safety equipment is required.

JOB SUMMARY:
The IT Support Specialist is a point of escalation for helpdesk level tickets and is responsible for developing methods and procedures to be used at the helpdesk level to address issues addressed by users. Secondary responsibilities include the ability to perform all aspects of a junior support role, in addition to administration of user accounts and access, conducting software installations, hardware repair, as well as developing methods and procedures for lower tier users interacting with these systems. The Support Specialist will be required to continually update and enhance technical skills through training programs and self-study to stay abreast of technology improvements and updates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and administer email accounts, user access accounts for network access and maintain first-level triage for all communication applications.
Provide a consistent, stable platform for all workstations by utilizing an imaging utility to deploy a standard desktop.
Install and replace hardware and software packages (including security patches) for end-user laptops and workstations in all locations.
Assist with asset management to include the tracking of relocation and reallocation of hardware and software (i.e. coordination of company moves) and maintaining a complete inventory of hardware in all locations, including inventory that has been disposed.
Establish and maintain working relationships within our company across all locations.
Work with the business contingency planning to establish and maintain disaster recovery plans at the desktop, printer, and fax level. Test out these plans every six months as part of recovery.
Coordinate resource allocation by supporting use of video conferencing, projectors, and remote PC connections for meetings, etc.
Replacement or repair of damaged or outdated equipment.
Assist other IT departments with projects or research as needed.
Provide proactive information through research of the business to assist and improve processes.
Provide after hours support on rotating on-call schedule
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Required qualifications and experience:
2-5 years of recent technical support in a corporate setting that includes, hands-on experience configuring and maintaining desktop hardware and software, preferred.
Demonstrated experience providing excellent, professional and positive customer service including superior telephone etiquette and strong verbal and written communication skills (ability to present complex technical information to a non-technical audience).
Demonstrated experience documenting technical resolutions to common issues; sharing information with end-users and team members; and identifying and documenting enhancements that can be made to systems to improve overall customer experience, helping them be more efficient.
Proven ability to stay organized; to track and manage multiple tasks at the same time and follow them through to completion; to solve complex technical problems with limited supervision; and to make sound technical decisions.
