We are seeking a
Technical Illustrator
to support tasks in the planning, layout and preparation of artwork for inclusion in various Service Documentation formats including Technical/Service Manuals, Operation and Maintenance Manuals, Training Documentation, Parts/Tool Instruction Sheets, Safety Recalls, and Field Notification Letters.
In this position, the ideal candidate will create two and three-dimensional drawings from CAD models, rough sketches, photographs, and/or engineering drawings. Determines composition of technical illustrations and selects views, angles, perspectives and projections necessary for presentation. May select techniques best suited to produce desired visual effects and recommend methods and medium to convey desired effect.

As an Associate Technical Illustrator, your primary responsibilities are to assist with development of new operation, parts, assembly "LEGO blocks" illustrations, product mechanical/electrical illustrations, and safety technical manuals for end users, maintain existing technical manuals and assist with design and maintenance of product labeling for safety and informative purposes. The mission of NAWCWD is to provide the Armed Forces with effective and affordable integrated warfare systems and life-cycle support to ensure battle space dominance. NAWCWD operates the Navy's largest Western Land and Sea Range Test and Evaluation Complex which is used to verify and validate proof of concepts to operationally fielded capabilities by applying new technologies and performing Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E), including logistics and in-service support for guided missiles, free-fall weapons, targets, crew systems, and electronic warfare systems.
Primary Functions:
+ The Illustrator II usually is assigned to projects involving several of the common art medias. These projects require the Illustrator to be proficient in the use of these media and in executing acceptable drawings in many styles.
+ Generally, Illustrator II executes drawings that have been conceived by others and presented in the form of rough sketches.
+ This illustrator does not exercise an extensive knowledge of the subject matter involved when preparing scientific or technical equipment illustrations, but does acquire information about the subject assigned to illustrate and develop a background of subject matter knowledge through carrying out these illustrating assignments. However, the kind of illustrating work assigned does not require an extensive prior knowledge about the subjects illustrated.
