The Internship
We are seeking a Robotics Intern passionate about teleoperation, VR/AR, and spatial computing to help advance TRI's next-generation humanoid teleoperation platform. You will design, implement, and test systems that enable humans to intuitively control robots through immersive interfaces, contributing to TRI's mission of extending human capability through robotics. Working closely with cross-functional teams in mechanical design, perception, controls, and UX, you'll develop real-time software prototypes that integrate robot hardware, motion capture, haptics, and 3D graphics-creating intuitive experiences that blend spatial computing with advanced robotic capabilities.
Your work will involve developing and refining VR/AR interfaces for robot control, building tools for 3D scene reconstruction and robot state awareness (e.g., point clouds, collision detection, and singularity visualization), and exploring techniques for motion retargeting, body tracking, and hand pose estimation. You'll also have opportunities to run user studies, contribute to open-source codebases and research publications, and demonstrate prototypes that push the boundaries of human-robot interaction.
Qualifications

Design and Communication
As part of your project, you will create a technical requirement document describing what you plan to implement and how you plan to do it. What memory and communication resources you would require will be reviewed on whether these can be accommodated within our system.
You will create an automated test plan and write code to verify your code continues to work correctly even if other code pieces around it are modified, so when you go back to school, things don't get lost.
Team Collaboration
You will be joining the Software Team, reporting to your mentoring Software Engineer.

Your Impact
You will help with improving the Onshape CAD system, both as far as user-facing functionality and infrastructure. The work is likely to focus on our Onshape Drawings module to help improve existing services and/or build new services expanding drawings feature capabilities.
Interns will work on several projects throughout their time that will be deployed to customers, and due to Onshape's agile and frequent release cycle, interns will often see their work in the hands of the customers before their internship is over!
Your Team
You will be part of a team that is responsible for developing functionality that provides the underpinnings of Onshape's drawings capabilities, as well as improving API's, and performance. We treat interns like full time developers who just happen to be around for a shorter period of time, so an intern will be a full-fledged team member with many of the same responsibilities as a full-time engineer.
Your Day-to-Day:
Develop new code to improve Onshape
Work with UX to figure out how new functionality should work
Participate in the code review process both as reviewer and reviewee
Fix bugs both in your new code and in existing code
Basic Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in some type of degree program in one of the following or related fields: Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science.
Comfort with at least two of (JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C++)
Experience working on a software engineering team.
Experience with geometric computation is a plus.
