Performing construction maintenance duties as necessary including: splicing aerial/underground coaxial and/or fiber optic cables and equipment to restore cable plant to system specification; splicing and activating new coaxial plant; repairing and/or replacing damaged aerial/underground plant; and inspecting, repairing and/or replacing power supplies. Continuously monitoring plant for ingress/egress and performs signal leakage ride-out activities and tracks and repairs signal leakage, as necessary. Training system technical personnel as directed by local system management. Qualifications One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position. A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment. Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances. Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed. The position requires the ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when on-call.
