As an Hourly Controls Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of our production processes. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing electrical and control systems integral to our manufacturing equipment. The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of controls experience, with proficiency in Allen-Bradley systems, familiarity with robotics, and potential exposure to vision systems. RESPONSIBILITIES: * 5-day work week with opportunities for weekend and off shift overtime. * Strong understanding of electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles. * Diagnoses and resolves issues related to control systems, including electrical, electronic, and mechanical components. * Install, wire, and configure control systems, including hardware and software components. * Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and HMI's with a specific focus on Allen-Bradley systems, with exposure to Siemens. * Ensure control systems meet safety requirements per policy and standards. * Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and repair faulty equipment * Conduct regular inspections of electrical and control systems to identify and address potential issues. * Troubleshoot and repair electrical and control system malfunctions promptly to minimize production downtime. * Collaborate with the maintenance team and Controls Engineer to implement system upgrades and modifications, ensuring seamless integration. * Work with robotic systems, including troubleshooting, programming adjustments, and routine maintenance alongside maintenance technicians. * Possess a basic understanding of vision systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain related components. * Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history REQUIREMENTS: * High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering or related certifications/experience. * Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in controls systems, with a focus on Allen-Bradley. * Familiarity with robotic systems and their integration into manufacturing processes. * Exposure to vision systems is a plus. * Proficient in reading electrical schematics and blueprints. * Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. * Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. * Overtime (hours worked beyond 40 per week) is a required component of this role and is considered an essential job function. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Conduct testing for switch machinery, batteries for plant grounds, relays and cable for specifications, track signals, circuits for route locking, crossing track, locking points and balanced air, air compressors and record findings in accordance with AMT 27. * Inspects test signal apparatus and systems and records the findings including the results from above in accordance with AMT 27. * Maintains and repairs the above in accordance with AMT 23 and the special instructions governing the construction of Signals and interlocking. * Assists Signalman in performance of assigned duties and conducts his/her own equipment tests and records results. * Works with the Foreman to maintain all small tools and equipment conducting daily inventories to ensure good working order. * Responds to signal failures, answers trouble calls for signal failures and reports to the Foreman * Assist in marking out where cables are located; installation of new movement ties; switch inspections, surfacing and to provide generators for power outage. * Perform carpentry, plumbing, and electrical tasks as needed including pipefitting and low voltage 220 voltage electrical work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Applicants will be required to qualify for the position by passing the electronic technician examination for communications prepared by System Communications Engineering Department. * The technician must be familiar with the division reporting structure, possess knowledge of data and voice circuit electronics, and have general knowledge of electronics. * Must be capable of learning, understanding, and maintaining Amtrak's cable plant. * Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate. * Applicants must have a valid driver's license on the date of hire. * Must be able to read and understand job information written in English. * Applicants must be able to perform basic mathematical computations including fractions and decimals. * Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats and reflective vests, outside work with exposure to all weather conditions.
