On any project I always try to have discussions with the creatives involved to make sure we are all on the same page with the vision of the project. After that it depends on the project.

Man Men was a beautifully shot show. The production design had such a carefully designed color palette. How much of this was enhanced or designed in post production, and how much of it naturally came through in the photography? Did you find yourself using a lot of power windows to create the look, or was it more a case of fixing little inconsistencies?

It was a mix of all of it. The design had to be there in the first place and my job was to make sure the things that we wanted noticed were and when things stuck out, I would hold them back. I did a lot of windowing on the show. I worked closely with the DP Chris Manley on knowing what he would have liked to do on set but did not have time or space. So I would take care of those things plus just for consistency.

Just a few from a very junior freelance colourist. How did you get into colouring. What are you experiences with HDR is it easier than SDR to grade or harder? what stands out to you as being different? and what challenges will future colourists face. How do you manage a room full of 8 people, I usually only have 1 or 2 which I find alright but can't imagine trying to balance 5 or 6 peoples Opinions all at once and make everybody happy and like they have been listed to. Finally I always try to have a laugh in my suite with clients and sometimes have some very funny moments, do you have an example of any of those you can share?

How I got started answered is above. SDR and HDR are just as challenging to grade. The tougher job is making them match. Keeping up with the tech changes will be a job in itself. Managing the room is just experience. Make sure to always figure out who in there gets the most say. It will help you guide the room. I am just myself. So far that seems to work for me.
