Author of Trampled by Unicorns: Big Tech’s Empathy Problem and How to Fix It, Gavet has been a leading technology executive and entrepreneur for more than 15 years. She began her career as an entrepreneur and later became a Principal at the Boston Consulting Group and then went on to become CEO of OZON.ru, Russia’s largest e-commerce site (which recently went public on NASDAQ and is valued at over $9B), and Executive Vice President of Operations of the Priceline Group, the largest online hospitality and travel agency in the world which includes brands like OpenTable, Kayak, and Booking.com. Most recently Gavet was Chief Operating Officer at real estate platform Compass, valued at over $6B.

I remember I was 8 years old.

I was sitting in a dark classroom, filled with a bunch of 2nd graders, trying to solve as many mathematical problems as possible and win the local competition. And even though I didn't find the right way to divide a square into three equal parts (true story), I still won the 2nd place and fell in love with Mathematics.

So I guess it was only reasonable that I would find myself enter the University of Nottingham to study Mathematics and Economics ten years later. What was not expected, though, is that I'll find an even deeper passion for something completely different - Online Marketing.

You know, I used to think that Marketing is reserved for the 'creative' ones. Those that close themselves in a pitch-dark room for 24 hours and come out with a truly mind-blowing idea that will change everything.

But that's not really the case, is it?

What I realised, is that Marketing is all about Mathematics, really. It's about analysing problems, looking at different variables you have, and then taking specific steps to solve those problems - like solving an equation. In other words, Marketing is about algorithms. And I love algorithms.

So here I am, spending my days as a Facebook advertising specialist - and I couldn't be happier!

Every day I'm analysing dozens, if not hundreds of rows and columns filled with numbers, looking for what should be optimised next, and developing my own laser-focused algorithms to get the most results for my clients.

And although it doesn't work 100% of the time, when it does, it's magical.

But then again, there's no need for magic when you have Maths. And me.

Elena began her career as employee number 16 at a software startup, with responsibilities ranging from technical writing to operations. After the company was acquired by a Dutch multinational, she held various leadership roles focusing on both customer and technical areas of the business. Ultimately, she lead the establishment of their Global Services organization, with responsibility for all aspects of the experience of the company’s +10,000 customers. In addition, Elena took on the design and development overhaul of a failing product, building it into a consumer friendly, subscription based offering. Elena went on to co-found a customer experience technology startup, providing customer experience and consulting services to a broad range of global clients, before she pivoted her career to focus on her passion for software design and development. Elena’s blend of product design and development talent, and her unrelenting focus on execution excellence, enables her to manage all aspects of the Xmetryx experience, from coding and design, to customer relationships and publishing.

Ramón González is a computer engineer with over 5 years of experience developing for the iOS platform. He has worked with renowned companies such as IBM, MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Rock Solid Technologies. He started building apps when he co-founded Stography, where he was the CTO and lead iOS engineer. Two years ago he co-founded Kytelabs, and since has been involved in projects related to embedded hardware, connected devices and internet of things, web services, and platforms. He's the CTO and lead iOS engineer of Kytelabs. Kytelabs is mostly known for the BLEduino, an Arduino-compatible development board with Bluetooth 4.0 built-in. All this work led to great opportunities including becoming an alumni of the Techstars, and Alphalab Gear programs. Ramón is proficient in Objective-C, Java, Web-Services, and Cocoa Touch. He has developed applications and frameworks, and some of his work is used by thousands of people.
