As part of The California Post's bold expansion into Los Angeles, we are seeking a Senior Photo Editor to join our growing Photo Department. The Photo team is central to our fast-paced newsroom, working across platforms to elevate storytelling through compelling, accurate, and timely visuals. Our editors are visual journalists with sharp editorial instincts and a deep understanding of how imagery shapes reader engagement and trust. Reporting to the Photo Director, the Senior Photo Editor is a key individual contributor on the visuals team, exercising high-level editorial judgment and helping set the visual standard for the California Post. This role will lead visual coverage for major stories, react quickly to breaking news, and collaborate closely with editors and reporters to ensure our journalism is visually strong, ethical, and impactful across digital platforms. Responsibilities: Produce fast visual coverage on live breaking news and trending stories Researching live news, sports & political events. Fulfill photo requests to produce high quality assets for digital and print needs. Create visually appealing composites for the homepage. Pitch impactful photo stories and create online image galleries. Negotiate rates with agencies and freelance photographers. Assigning and briefing photographers. Requirements: 5+ years experience at a multi-platform digital media and print brand. Deep newsroom experience to thrive in a fast-paced environment under pressure. Excellent photo agency knowledge of mainstream wire services and agents. Proven photo research and social verification expertise. Excellent news judgment with knowledge of news, sports and entertainment. Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with agencies and freelancers. Professional knowledge in briefing and directing photographers. Digital-first mindset with experience adapting photos across platforms. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop. Note: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week. The shift time for this position will be 2pm to 10pm and will be expected to work one weekend day.
