Telefónica Germany CEO and leadership

Markus Haas has been Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since January 2017. Prior to this position, he had been leading the operative core business of the company as Chief Operating Officer (COO) since 2014. As COO he was also responsible for the operative integration of Telefónica and E-Plus following the acquisition in 2014 as well as the related successful realisation of the expected synergies. Most recently, under his overall leadership of the company, Telefónica again revolutionised the mobile communications market in Germany with the launch of O2 Free, the most customer-friendly mobile data product by far.

Being a fully qualified lawyer, Markus Haas has been working for Telefónica since 1998. In 2009 he was appointed to the executive board and since 2012 he is member of the board of directors of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG, where he most recently steered the company strategy. In this position he was mainly responsible for the successful acquisition of E-Plus group. Previously he played significant roles in the acquisition and integration of HanseNet, the LTE spectrum auction and Telefónica Deutschland´s successful IPO. Under his conduct of negotiations Telefónica Deutschland entered commercially important strategic partnerships with Deutsche Telekom AG, Versatel GmbH and Drillisch AG among others.

Markus Haas started his career in the legal affairs and regulatory division at Telefónica in Germany in 1998 - at that time Viag Interkom - and subsequently worked as Executive Assistant of the CFO. Afterwards, he steered as Vice President the Corporate & Legal Affairs department with commercial responsibility for the roaming- and wholesale network-business. Markus Haas was born in 1972 and lives in Munich with his family.

Markus Rolle has been CFO of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since August 2017. Prior to this position, he had been Director Controlling of Telefónica Germany since October 2014 and worked closely together in this position with CFO Rachel Empey and CEO Markus Haas. He joined E-Plus more than 18 years ago. During his training he got involved with all relevant fields of the company which led him to work as Business Analyst for the strategic long-term planning in Controlling. From 2004, the graduate of a business degree held various leading positions in the finance departments of the E-Plus Group and the KPN Group, including positions as Director Controlling at E-Plus and as CFO Consumer Mobile in the Netherlands. From November 2013 he significantly helped to prepare the Post Merger Integration (PMI) process between Telefónica Deutschland and E-Plus. He also took over several senior management tasks for subsidiaries and was in charge of their financial topics.

Markus Rolle graduated as a business graduate of Business Administration from the Hochschule für Ökonomie und Management (College for Economics and Management) in Essen. Further he joined various High Potential and Executives programmes. He was born in Gelsenkirchen in 1978, is married and father of two children.

Nicole Gerhardt has been Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since August 2017. In this position she is responsible for Human Resources within the company. Prior to this, Nicole Gerhardt was Executive Vice President Human Resources at ProSieben.Sat1 Media SE.

Nicole Gerhardt is already well acquainted with the company. From 2013 to 2015, the fully qualified lawyer worked first as Head of HR at the E-Plus Group and then, following the merger of Telefónica Deutschland and E-Plus, as Director Business Partnering, Talent, Leadership & Capability Development. Nicole Gerhardt started her career as Legal Counsel at Versatel Deutschland GmbH, before leading the company’s HR department. Several leading positions followed in the HR departments of Vodafone in Germany as well as abroad.

Nicole Gerhardt studied law at Ruhr University Bochum. She was born in 1970 und she is married.

Valentina Daiber has been Chief Officer Legal and Corporate Affairs of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since August 2017. In this position she is responsible for the units Legal, Compliance, Corporate Security and Data Protection, as well as the regulatory work of the company, the relations to the public authorities and the government offices and the department of Corporate Responsibility. In addition, Valentina Daiber leads the representative office of Telefónica in the capital Berlin. Prior to this position, the lawyer was Director Corporate Affairs at Telefónica Germany and responsible for the legal departments Regulatory Law, Cartel Law, Telecommunications Law and Media Law as well as for the work with political committees and organisations.

Valentina Daiber joined Telefónica Deutschland - then Viag Interkom - in 1999, where she started as advisor in the field of Regulation. Since 2004 she has been working in various leading positions in the company. Prior to her career at Telefónica, Valentina Daiber worked at the Institute for European Media Law in Saarbrücken as well as for the national office for private broadcasters, in Ludwigshafen.

Valentina Daiber completed her first legal state examination at the University of Saarbrücken and her second legal state examination at the Oberlandesgericht (higher regional court) Zweibrücken / Palatinate. She was born in Neunkirchen/Saar in 1967, is married and the mother of a son.

Cayetano Carbajo Martín has been Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since August 2017. In this role he is responsible for the mobile and fixed-line networks of Telefónica Deutschland. His duties also include the expansion of the LTE network as well as the consolidation of the mobile networks of Telefónica Deutschland and the E-Plus Group. The telecommunications engineer joined the company in 2014 as Managing Director Networks. Prior to this, Cayetano Carbajo Martin had been working for the Telefónica Group in management positions for several years, most recently as Director of Technology and Planning for the parent company Telefónica S.A.. In this position he temporarily led the overall technical development of all Telefónica mobile and fixed-line networks. Before that, he was CTO of Telefónica Móviles in Mexico from 2003 to 2006. In the year 2000 Cayetano Carbajo Martín was responsible for the Network Deployment at Medi Telecom (Maroc). He started his career in the Radio Department of Telefónica Móviles España in 1995. Cayetano Carbajo Martín studied at E.T.S.I. de Telecomunicación in Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSIT UPM), specializing in antennas as well as radio communications and radio transmission. He was born in Cáceres (Spain) in 1970, is married and the father of two children.

Maria Garcia Legaz Ponce is a Board Member at Telefónica Germany, Board Member at TELEFONICA DEUTSCHLAND HOLDI, and Chief of Staff at Telefónica Germany. She has worked as Chief of Staff at Telefonica De España and Head:Investor Relations at Telefónica Germany. Maria attended Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Wolfgang Metze has been Chief Consumer Officer (CCO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since August 2017. In this position he is responsible for the Private Customer Business with a clear focus on customer experience. Wolfgang Metze joined Telefónica Germany in February 2017 as Managing Director B2C. Prior to joining Telefónica Germany, the graduate of a business degree (FH) had been working for the Deutsche Telekom Group since 2000 in various leading positions; most recently, for several years he was Senior Vice President for the Segment Management Private Customers department and Member of the Supervisory Board of the subsidiary company Congstar GmbH. Wolfgang Metze started his career at Telekom Deutschland as a trainee, having worked as a freelancer distributing telecommunications solutions for several years.

Following a training in banking, Wolfgang Metze studied at Fachhochschule Köln (Cologne University of Applied Sciences) and graduated with a business degree (FH). Wolfgang Metze was born in Bergisch Gladbach in 1973, is married and the father of three children.

Alfons Loesing is a Board Member at Telefónica Germany, Chief Partner & Wholesale Officer at Telefónica Germany, and Chief Partner & Wholesale Officer at Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG. He studied at Bochum University of Applied Science and Universität Paderborn.
