The Role: Senior FieldEngineer
As a Senior FieldEngineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. In this role, you will provide full life-cycle support to Switch Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will be the go to engineering resource for their region when technical advice is needed and will use your subject matter expertise as well as engage with diverse teams to meet the commitment of superior service to the clients.
As a FieldEngineer, you will be leading projects to fit out Switch data centers to meet ever-evolving clients needs as we continue expanding our fleet to support hyper-scale and beyond.
What You ll Do
Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers.
Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
Lead, Review, and approve designs for existing data center upgrades which improve availability/efficiency.
Interface with internal data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Switch data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.

What You'll Bring
Bachelor s Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Structural Engineering or equivalent experience.

The Role: Utility Projects Engineer
As a Utility Projects Engineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. In this role you will support Switch Data Centers by leading high-level substation and transmission planning and providing construction support for Switch-owned and utility-sourced projects. You will bridge Development, Design Engineering, and internal teams to ensure reliable, scalable electric utility service for mission-critical data centers. Responsibilities include conceptual substation layouts, utility interconnection and infrastructure planning, technical evaluations, project due diligence, and support of site development, construction, commercial agreements, and operations. You will also manage coordination with utilities and local stakeholders across North America and provide technical guidance on utility-related engineering studies, including generator interconnections.
What You ll Do.
Substation and Transmission Planning: Lead high-level substation and transmission efforts for new and expanding Switch campuses.
Technical Documentations: Develop conceptual one-line diagrams, substation arrangements, and transmission interconnect strategies during early-stage development.
Utility Ownership Evaluation: Evaluate utility-served vs. Switch-owned infrastructure options to determine the most reliable and cost-effective solutions. Oversee the study process until final submission, ensuring approval from the Power, Construction, and Development Teams.
Utility Power Delivery Standards Evaluation: Assist internal Switch Engineering teams with interpreting and applying utility interconnection standards to ensure compliant and efficient substation designs and power delivery from source utilities.
Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance through design and construction to maintain consistency with project intent and utility requirements.
Communication and Coordination: Serve as technical interface between Switch, utilities, consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Utility Equipment Procurement: Document and assist with procurement with Switch Supply Chain for needed long lead equipment to meet Switch s in service dates. Support with technical specifications and equipment evaluations.
Strategic Capacity Planning: Participate and facilitate strategic long term power capacity planning and architecture for current and planned Switch campuses as related to Switch owned electrical infrastructure or utility provided infrastructure.
Interconnection Agreements: Oversee generator interconnection studies and associated input gathering from internal parties within Switch and the Utility.

Role Summary:
The Service Engineer is a hybrid position with the primary role to assist in the smooth operation of GTT's Global Network under the supervision of the Network Operations Manager. This is a large-scale network spanning the globe and is built on a multi-platform environment. The role is varied and demands a totally flexible approach to all tasks associated with this position.
Job Scope/Supervision:
The successful candidate should be comfortable working within an expanded and very fast-paced team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assisting in customer test & turn-up (DWDM/ADM/Ethernet)
Customer circuit troubleshooting with the aid of industry-standard test equipment.
Liaising with all GTT NOC Engineers and Network Operations departments in other countries
Report writing and creating/maintaining inventories.
Assisting in the management of a Planned Preventative Maintenance program and schedules
Network installations / troubleshooting.
Non-routine duties will be allocated as deemed necessary.
Training other members of staff when applicable.
Generate site documentation such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and ordering supplies and equipment.
Periodically inspect the equipment, locate, and correct problems before breakdowns occur.
Ability to replace items such as circuit breakers, fuses, switches, lamps, electrical & electronic components, and cable.
When working with more complex items of plant, they may work with engineers, engineering technicians, or industrial machinery installation, repair, and maintenance workers.
Supervise planned works, carrying out postmortems upon completion to assess the efficiency / financial worth and lessons learned from said works.
Aim to constantly reduce operational running costs.
Review / authorize and manage MOPS (method of procedures) RA's (Risk Assessments) and back out plans prior to on-site works taking place assessing all potential risks and consequences relating to specific works.
Provide hands-on and technical assistance during an emergency.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
Experience in optical networks and technical facilities required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an operational environment in a medium to large-scale carrier / ISP would be a definite advantage.
Experience in a role with hands-on complex technical problem solving as a daily occurrence.
Degree in Engineering related field - preferably Telecoms / Datacomms modules covered.
Experience with hands-on installs of power and telecoms equipment
Strong Fiber management principles
Experience with test equipment - OSA / OTDR / BERT / RFC 2544 test sets
