A Brief Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Cardiothoracic Surgery team. In this role, you will assist in surgical procedures, provide comprehensive patient care, and collaborate closely with surgeons and medical staff to ensure optimal outcomes for patients. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
At the Cardiac Center, children with complex heart conditions who require surgery are cared for by the experts in our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The members of this world-renowned surgical team are pioneers in developing innovative surgical techniques, including improvements in heart-lung bypass and heart surgery.
Some of our patients will require pediatric heart surgery within the first hours of life. Others will undergo carefully orchestrated medical therapy for weeks or months before surgery. No matter when your child requires care - from infancy through young adulthood - our pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons work with cardiologists, anesthesiologists, cardiac nurses and other team members to plan your child's surgery according to his unique circumstances.
Our team is also leading research in the field of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, from exploring how congenital heart disease develops to studying the long-term effects of surgery on physiologic development and neurodevelopment in children. Improvement and refinement of surgical techniques is also one of our ongoing goals.
What you will do
* Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability. Utilizes the data to formulate a plan of care.
* Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process.
* Analyzes the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.
* Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes.
* Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness.
* Facilitates the patient's transitions between and within health care settings.
* Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
* Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Position Summary
Responsible for delivering high-quality treatment services and ensuring the effective functioning of a multidisciplinary team. This role provides comprehensive care across all surgical phases, including preoperative assessments, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative management. Key duties include conducting patient evaluations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, assisting surgeons during procedures, monitoring recovery, educating patients, and maintaining accurate documentation. Collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals is essential to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
