Job Description:
A clinical position providing patients with direct safe, quality care throughout their treatment and disease process under the direction of the MD or NP/PA (provider) and or the oversight of a direct supervisor (LPN and or RN).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Measures patient height / weight and vital signs. Screens for and documents pain, distress, clinical depression scores required for each patient visit
Completes “rooming” process including escorting patient to exam room
Reviews/verifies medication lists and preferred pharmacy information with patient for accuracy and enters/ updates information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) at each encounter
Reviews/verifies patient allergies and updates in EMR at each encounter
Reviews health histories and other assigned historical information with the patient since the last visit and updates in the EMR at each encounter.
Completes all required screening questionnaires and enters data in the EMR
Prepares patients for examination and or treatment assuring rooms/chairs are turned over in a manner that promotes efficient provider workflow and patient through put
Reviews need for prescriptions/refills at each encounter. Manages prescription refill extension requests per Tennessee Oncology (TO) policy, procedure, standards. Calls in prescriptions/ refills according to TO policies, at the direction of the provider or under the supervision of an LPN/RN,
Calls patients with lab results and verbatim instructions, at the direction of the provider and under the supervision of an LPN/RN
Assists with telephone triage by screening incoming calls/messages, returns phone calls at the direction of the provider and under the supervision of an LPN/RN adhering to approved protocols/ decision making trees/ algorithms
Assists with provider performed procedures/exams/acts as a chaperone (i.e., bone marrow biopsies, skin biopsies, etc.)
Assists in the treatment room with port access, injections, vital signs, comfort rounds, assigning/cleaning chairs, etc.
Assists with nursing evaluations under the supervision of an LPN/RN
Prepares and administers approved ID, SQ, IM and or PO medications as ordered by providers and according to TO practice standards and or policies.
Accesses drug cabinets and assists with completion of daily/weekly/monthly activities under the supervision of an LPN/RN (excluding controlled substance inventory counts)
Accesses and flushes implanted ports, after competency validation, under the supervision of an LPN/RN
Collects laboratory specimens (blood, urine, sputum. nasal/oral swabs after competency validation
Assists with patient education as outlined /approved by the provider or under the supervision of an LPN/RN
Verifies accuracy of or works collaboratively with front office staff to schedule appointments and or arrange referrals at the direction of a provider or under the supervision of an LPN/RN
Assists with completing forms for patients (i.e., FMLA, Disability, Prior Approval, etc.) according to TO policies and within scope of practice.
Assists with insurance prior authorizations for scheduled visits, referrals and or medications
Stocks exam rooms, treatment room and other clinical areas to meet daily needs.
Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for clinic
Informs direct supervisor of clinic needs and concerns related to the work environment.
Participates on committees as requested
Attends all mandatory in-services and meetings.
Completes all required/assigned training, continuing education, and competency validations on time
Adheres consistently with TO policies, procedures, standards
Consistently role models TO code of conduct, mission, and values
Performs other duties as assigned

Position Summary:
The Inpatient Phlebotomist is responsible for performing phlebotomy on inpatients including adults, adolescents, and infants with a focus on patient care, and positive communication with patients, hospital staff and co-workers conducting laboratory tests which provide information to physicians for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of diseases in patients.
Essential Functions:

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides support in all aspects of patient care. Obtains appropriate information to aid the physician in the treatment of the patient
Essential Functions Statement(s)
* Directs and escorts patients to appropriate treatment areas
* Obtains appropriate information to aid the physician in the treatment of the patient
* Performs suture removal and dressing changes
* Assists physician in minor office procedures such as biopsies, injections and aspirations
* Applies, removes and fits soft goods
* Ensures exam rooms/pods are clean and properly stocked
* Schedules patient's appointments, tests and surgeries when necessary
* Assists in answering phone calls while in clinic
* Performs other related duties as assigned
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience: Certified Medicalassistant and/or 2 years of experience in a healthcare environment required. Must be able to sit for and pass A-BROE certification. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Must be computer literate. Basic computer skills required.
Certifications &Licenses: Certified MedicalAssistant required.

Shadowing is available across departments, including medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and spiritual. Common opportunities to observe include patient encounters, team huddles, in-office procedures, clinical support activities, administrative operations, and/or community events. Shadowing rotations are generally 1 - 2 half days per week for 4 weeks, but this is variable depending on the type of shadowing desired.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Minimize distraction/interference
Strictly adhere to patient confidentiality
Maintain professional appearance
Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: enrollment in, or completion of, high school or equivalent.
Skills/abilities: accompanying in a fast-paced environment required; prolonged standing and maneuvering within small exam rooms required (most locations); adherence to universal, bloodborne, airborne, and sterile precautions required.
Licenses/certifications: BLS preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Age at least 16 years old
Current government-issued ID, plus wearable badge (temporary badge available if needed)
Signed confidentiality, liability and media consent forms
Immunization records including TB, HBV, and Flu (depending on season)
Complete HIPAA training module

Job Description:
The Laboratory MedicalAssistant is responsible for the collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing. This is executed by following proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, properly identifying patients, , assisting physicians with procedures and exams as requested, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of supplies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates ability to perform clean venipunctures.
Demonstrates ability to perform capillary collections.
Demonstrates ability to access/deaccess ports for blood collection.
Demonstrates ability to educate patients on 24 hour urine collections and fecal occult blood collections
Follows proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids and hazardous chemicals.
Demonstrates knowledge of ongoing quality assurance activities in the office and documents breaches of quality as they occur.
Demonstrates positive patient identification and proper sample labeling.
Assists physicians with procedures and exams as requested.
Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies.
Demonstrate ability and knowledge of send-outs and processing of specimens for transport.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and either must correct the problems or immediately notify Director or Manager.
Be able to document in charts for “lab only” visits, port access/deaccess for blood collection.
Demonstrate ability to perform vital signs (if needed) and chart information according to procedures and policies.
Demonstration ability to collect relevant medical, social and familial histories (if needed) according to procedures and policies.
Other relevant duties based on training and clinic needs as assigned
Must be willing and able to travel to other TNONC locations as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Excellent phlebotomy skills
Outpatient facility or physician office experience preferred
Vital signs experience preferred but not required. Must be willing to be trained.
Port Access/DE access and flushing preferred but not required. Must be willing to be trained.
Knowledge of computer systems in regard to laboratory information systems and patient records.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
MedicalAssistant, Phlebotomist, or Certified Phlebotomist with 1 years of clinical experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
For MedicalAssistant, Current MA certification or Graduate of MedicalAssistant Training Program preferred
Current TO approved BLS provider card required within 3 months of hire
