In 1979, a modern five-story hospital complex was built on the south side of Terre Haute to replace the original building.
Then, the hospital commissioned a facility study which concluded that the aging facility would have to be replaced by 1985 in order to meet current technological standards.
The disease still kills roughly one million people per year worldwide, down from a peak of 2.2 million in 2005.
Tuberculosis has been present since ancient times and found in prehistoric humans dating as far back as 4000 B.C. In 2014 alone, there were 1.5 million recorded tuberculosis-related deaths worldwide.
In 2015, 2.1 million new cases were reported worldwide.
The hospital is a 2017 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence AwardSM winner for Patient Experience in Outpatient Oncology.
