This full-time position requires out-of-town travel with overnight stays at various substations across Florida. A per diem is provided while traveling. The schedule may include nights, weekends, and extended hours depending on project needs.
YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS MATTER
As a Utility Construction Substation Technician, you will work alongside experienced substation crews and wiremen to construct, repair, and maintain electrical substations throughout Florida. You will begin your day by prioritizing safety for yourself and your teammates, ensuring that all equipment and protective gear are in proper condition. You will assist with setting poles, installing transformers, steel structures, insulators, and protective devices. Under supervision, you will work on de-energized systems while learning valuable techniques such as rigging, hand-line use, and knot tying. You will also operate vehicles, tools, and heavy equipment with care, supporting the installation and removal of services and single-phase transformers. Every task will contribute to strengthening Florida's power infrastructure and helping communities stay reliably connected.
WHAT'S REQUIRED?
3+ years of related experience (preferred, but not required for entry-level)
Basic knowledge of electricity and safe work practices around electrical systems
Ability to follow safety protocols and perform in a physically demanding environment
Strong hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and color distinction
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to work safely around crane and rigging activities
Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 80 pounds, as well as work at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving equipment
Preferred:
5+ years of utility substation or construction experience
OSHA 10 certification and a CDL
Familiarity with fall protection systems
Ability to work from aerial lifts and heights
Prior knowledge of constructing vertical break and center break switches from 13kV to 500kV, as well as steel erection, framework, and reinforcing steel installation

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Qualifications
REQUIRED
A College degree, journeyman's license
10+ years of experience in electrical contracting project management with a good understanding of electrical installations
Proficient in architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings
Strong computer & Google Suite skills
Familiar with computer-based estimating for an item by item estimating
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must understand billing and collections
Excellent organizational skills
Experienced in mentoring and managing project managers, assistant project managers and senior level trade professionals
Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
30 Hour OSHA Certification is required within the first year

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

May require working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions; exposure to contaminants and exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. The field portion is an active role. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position works both in the field environment and office setting. It's typically around 40-45 hours per week, five days a week but may require some weekends and evenings when necessary. Working conditions can change dramatically from one job to another, varying from indoors in clean conditions to outdoors on scaffolding, and to confined and restricted locations. May require working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions; exposure to contaminants and exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. The office role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The field portion is an active role. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; Requires repetitive movement; climbing ladders, scaffolds, or poles; standing, walking and running; using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls; and bending or twisting. The office is largely a sedentary role; however, some lifting, bending and standing will be necessary.

Works with the Project Manager and owner's representatives to ensure work complies with drawings and specifications
Supports the Project Manager in the negotiation of claims and changes

Assists the Project Manager with Change Order review
Performs project close-out and ensures punch list is completed in a timely manner
Mentors Project Associates assigned to the project
Qualifications
A minimum of three years' experience on construction projects in a Healthcare Foreman or Healthcare General Foreman role (or higher) position
Ability to read and interpret construction documents
Effective communication skills
Knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, and ability to control and supervise small to midsized groups
Good organization, multi-tasking, leadership, and decision-making ability
