Terumo Medical company history timeline

1972

Kimball Terumo was founded in October 1972 and sales of Terumo products began in September of the following year.

1973

Such was the case in 1973, when the company began manufacturing and distributing its own line of catheters and urine bags.

1974

The scene is the opening ceremony for new factory of Kimball Terumo Corporation (currently known as Terumo Medical Corporation) in April 1974 in the city of Elkton, Maryland.

Terumo Corporation, as the company was renamed in 1974, supported its international and domestic expansion with the release of new products and the entry into new product categories.

1977

In 1977, the company released its first generation of hollow fiber dialyzers, a product that enabled it to enter the market for the manufacturing of artificial organs.

1980

The company continued to develop its soft bag delivery business, and in 1980 released the first soft-bag nutrient solutions line for the Japanese market.

In 1980, the company changed its name to Terumo Medical Corporation.

1982

1982: The first hollow-fiber oxygenator is launched.

Vascutek products have been trusted in over 2 million implants in more than 90 countries since 1982, while Bolton Medical has been focused on providing endovascular solutions for aortic disease for more than 15 years.

1983

In 1983, the company released a "predictive" digital clinical thermometer.

1984

1984 Cardiovascular Devices Inc. (CDI) introduced the Gas Stat System, the industry’s first continuous monitor

1985

Then, in 1985, Terumo entered a new product category, unveiling the first of its diagnostic and surgical intervention catheter products, the Radifocus guidewire for angiography.

1988

In 1988, the company released two such home medical products, an automated peritoneal dialysis system and a digital blood-pressure monitor.

1988 CAPIOX® E Oxygenator launched, offering venous gravity drainage and an arterial reservoir for ease-of-use

1995

In 1995, Terumo opened its first Chinese subsidiary, in Hangzhou City, which took over manufacturing of a number of Terumo's products for the Japanese market.

1997

Meanwhile, in 1997, Terumo launched a new subsidiary and manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom which began production of blood lines for the company's oxygenator products.

1998

That same year, Terumo's European operations were boosted with new technology, leading to the creation in Belgium of both a new facility for production of the Radifocus catheter systems range and, in 1998, the launch of production capacity for the company's sterile tubing products.

That facility began operations in 1998.

1999

Since 1999, Terumo Cardiovascular has expanded its cardiac surgery product line to include vascular grafts, endoscopic vessel harvesting, and more.

2000

In 2000, Terumo opened its newest production facility, in the Philippines, in order to produce syringes and other products to meet the surge in demand in the southeast Asian market.

2001

Pharmaceutical products account for 23 percent and the largest share of Terumo's sales, which topped ¥176 billion ($1.39 billion) in 2001.

2001: The company forms a marketing agreement for a new line of prefilled syringes with Tanabe Pharmaceuticals.

2002

Terumo continued to take steps to increase its position in the worldwide market, including the establishment in May 2002 of a dedicated sales and marketing subsidiary for its South and Central American operations.

2002 CAPIOX Baby RX™ (RX05) Neonatal Oxygenator launched Terumo Corporation acquired Vascutek Ltd., a global leader in artificial vascular grafts

2005

2005 Terumo Corporation became number one in the global perfusion products market and began to expand its portfolio to new product categories in the cardiac operating room VirtuoSaph™ Endoscopic Vein Harvesting System launched

2007

2007 Terumo Cardiovascular Systems became the exclusive distributor of Vascutek® Vascular Grafts in the United States

2008

2008 CAPIOX® FX Oxygenator, the industry’s first oxygenator with an integrated arterial filter, introduced CAPIOX® FX05 Oxygenator, the industry’s first pediatric oxygenator with an integrated arterial filter, launched

2011

2011 Terumo Corporation acquired Harvest Technologies Corporation, a leader in the development of point-of-care cell therapy

2013

2013 Terumo Cardiovascular Group formed, creating a global headquarters focused on the needs of cardiac surgery teams worldwide.

2014

2014 Terumo Cardiovascular Group became the exclusive distributor of Nonin Medical’s SenSmart™ Model X-100 in the United States

2016

2016 CAPIOX® FX Advance Oxygenator introduced, further reducing prime volume and lowering hemodilution.

2019

2019 Capiox® NX19 Oxygenator with UltraPrime™ Technology introduced, Terumo’s smallest full-size adult oxygenator to date.

2019 Terumo Cardiovascular Group and Talis Clinical announced partnership to deliver intelligent, real-time guidances to CVOR and CVICU to improve outcomes.

2020

2020 Terumo Cardiovascular Group updates name to Terumo Cardiovascular and introduces new logo, to focus on its market and customers.
