Tesla Overview

Tesla Motors was started by a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and strives to create a revolution and accelerate the world's transition to electric mobility with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars. Tesla vehicles are EVs (electric vehicles), which are transforming the way people drive and move. Tesla has gone public as of June 29, 2010 and has a market cap of $34.32 billion. Tesla Motors' goal is to increase the number and variety of EVs through three strategies. The first is to sell its own branded vehicle through its showrooms. Second is to sell premium, high-quality, patented electric components to other automakers. Lastly, it serves as a “catalyst and positive example to other automakers.” There has already been a movement in the EV market with the push of the GM Volt, rumored to have been inspired by the Tesla Roadster.
The staff at Tesla come from unusually diverse demographic backgrounds. The company is 22.0% female and 48.5% ethnic minorities. Despite its diversity in other areas, Tesla employees are noticeably lacking in political diversity. It has an unusually high proportion of employees who are members of the Democratic Party, at 90.0%. Employees seem to enjoy working in an otherwise diverse workplace that is dominated by members of the Democratic Party. Tesla has great employee retention with staff members usually staying with the company for 3.7 years. The average employee at Tesla makes $99,274 per year, which is quite competitive for its location and industry. In comparison, some of its highest paying competitors, like Cummins, General Motors, and Ford Motor, pay $71,987, $65,213, and $55,664, respectively.
Tesla is an industry leader with 99,290 employees and an annual revenue of $31.5B that is headquartered in California.
