What to Expect Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot electronics team is looking for an electricalengineer to develop robots' electrical "cardiovascular, sensory, and nervous" systems. Optimus hardware team joins electrical, mechanical, robotics, sensing, geartrain, electromagnetic, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative, fast-paced development environment. Optimus electronics team designs and deploys circuits that control power conversion across hundreds of devices across all electrical systems of the robot (actuators, motors, sensors, battery, etc.).
As part of the design team, you will be responsible for all aspects of electrical design (schematic, layout, industrialization, bring up, and validation) of Optimus joint controllers, work closely with firmware, motor controls, and mechanical engineers. You will also support industrialization and production activities.
What You'll Do
* Own compete start-to-finish development: requirement definition and specification, design execution, simulation, schematic, board layout, manufacturing and DFM iteration, board bring up and integration, and validation of circuit functionality
* Collaborate with firmware, mechanical hardware, robot and motor controls, PCB layout, program management, and validation teams on the design of world leading robotic electrical hardware
* Debug various hardware interactions in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment
* Thoroughly document design requirements, calculations, validation results, etc.
* Rapidly iterate as design requirements and product features mature over time
What You'll Bring
* Strong understanding of power conversion/electronic circuit topologies and design (dc/ac inverters, dc/dc converters, battery powered circuit, Si/GaN/SiC FETs, diodes, gate drivers, semiconductor switching/conduction loss modeling and calculation)
* Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits (op-amps, microcontrollers, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, component selection, power dissipation, etc.)
* Experience in PCB layout for reduced parasitic inductance/capacitance, mixed power and signal board layout,design for EMI/EMC performance
* Circuit board design (Altium preferred)
* Proficiency with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, impedance analyzers, signal generators, LCR meters, etc.)
* Experience shipping high-volume PCBAs is preferred
* Modeling and simulation experience (LTSpice, PLECS, ANSYS-Maxwell is preferred)
* Basic scripting/programming ability (MATLAB/Python preferred)
* Basic knowledge of control theory of power converters, embedded programming, PWM

Expected Compensation
$88,000 - $198,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Role Summary

Responsibilities
Homologation and certification of radio ECUs for different geographical regions in the world.
Testing and validation of RF design, integration according to different standards such as IEEE and 3GPP.
ECU level RF testing of various radio centr‑ic ECUs deployed in the vehicle.
Work cross‑functionally with various teams to understand RF measurements, requirements and issues. Assist in setting up different RF measurements at various stages of product development.

Qualifications

Fundamental RF measurement knowledge including cascaded device analysis and link budget analysis.
A solid theoretical and practical understanding of RF communications. Should be well versed with different RF test instruments and have a good understanding of operating principles of these instruments.
Solid understanding and experience in regulatory certification of devices according to FCC and EU regulations.
Basic understanding of cellular protocol and cellular carrier certification requirements for all major US carriers.

+ Lead effort to develop new analysis capabilities for 12V/48V electrical systems including, but not limited to, developing 12V battery model, 12V distribution model, aggregator model and other electrical components on the vehicle

+ Develop vehicle electrical and battery electro-thermal models to support virtual controls for Co-Sim and calibration initiatives

The Launch Engineer is responsible for providing Controls and Robotics support during design, installation and launch phase of new program manufacturing equipment. Duties include writing specifications and interacting with contractors and project teams. The Launch Engineer is responsible for the validation of all equipment to the FCA NAFTA Controls and Robotics standards as well as state and federal codes. They are also responsible for tracking equipment build and resolving Controls and Robotics issues from the equipment design phase through the installation.
