Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) specializing in Observability to join RivianVW's Data Platform - Production Engineering team. In this role, you will design, implement, and scale robust observability systems to ensure the health, performance, and reliability of our production environment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to create telemetry solutions that provide actionable insights into our distributed systems.
Responsibilities
Observability Platform Design: Architect, implement, and maintain observability systems, leveraging tools like Datadog, LGTM stack, OpenTelemetry, and Vector to enable real-time performance monitoring, logging, and alerting.
Telemetry Optimization: Evolve and scale telemetry pipelines to ensure low latency and high availability for metrics, logs, and traces across multi-cloud environments.
Performance Engineering: Proactively identify performance bottlenecks, optimize systems, and provide recommendations for reliability improvements.
Scalable Automation: Implement automation solutions to scale systems sustainably while driving improvements in reliability and deployment velocity.
Incident Management: Collaborate with the incident response team to establish data-driven debugging and troubleshooting processes using observability data.
Tooling Development: Create and maintain self-service observability tools and dashboards to empower teams across the organization.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to define SLOs/SLIs and ensure observability is embedded throughout the software lifecycle.
Qualifications
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: 5+ years in Site Reliability Engineering or a related role with a strong emphasis on observability.
Technical Expertise:
Proficiency in designing and operating observability platforms with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Jaeger, or Datadog.
Experience with OpenTelemetry and distributed tracing in microservices architectures.
Deep knowledge of Kubernetes (e.g., EKS), ArgoCD, and Crossplane.
Programming Skills: Strong proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages for building automation and custom telemetry solutions.
Cloud & Systems: Familiarity with multi-cloud setups, containerization (Docker), and Linux system fundamentals.
Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $146,900 - $194,610 USD
Actual Compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.

Apply reliability engineering concepts to continuously improve reliability for low voltage electrical systems across all products.
Use statistics to identify reliability trends in the field and provide a clear risk snapshot.
Develop tools and processes to track fleet health metrics for electronics.
Facilitate root cause investigations, with a major focus on physics of failure and a data‑driven approach.
Review electronic Contract Manufacturer test and end‑of‑line data to identify potential risks for downstream assembly and field.
Qualifications
Minimum requirement is a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent. Five or more years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role. Level of Role depends on experience and qualifications. A strong technical background is needed in the following areas:
Experience with applied statistics in the field of Reliability.
Experience with a coding language, preferably Python.
Understanding of Highly Accelerated Testing methods and governing equations for different types of failure mechanisms.
Technical knowledge of one or more aspects related to PCBA reliability: failure modes, reliability specification development, design guidelines, water‑cooled electronics, interconnects.
Experience working with Contract Manufacturers in Asia and North America, including performing on‑site audits of manufacturing facilities.
Experience with deploying reliability testing guidelines and inventing new ways of testing.

Duties / Responsibilities of this position:

Work with R&D and PD groups during product/process development. Support all process development activities including material development scaleup, plant trials, equipment trials and the implementation/documentation of processing parameters and recipes from raw material to final part. Follow the PDP and ODP processes.
Responsible for the preparation of Process Flow Segment Maps, PFMEAs for all new launched parts in compounding/conversion areas. Utilize part prints, DFMEAs, material specifications, FMA's, MCA's, Formula Recipes and equipment controls/limits as reference for their creation. Work with the quality department to see that these are carried over into the control plans and floor paperwork.
Lead all activities related to process launches including investigations, feasibility, proposals, trials/runoffs of processing equipment. Performs basic professional manufacturing engineering and production assignments in support and under the direction of senior engineers and Management.
MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets up, and programs CNC Lathes and Mills. Including but not limited to the following:
Changing of chucks, tool bar changes and touch offs, cutting jaws on lathe, indicating in tailstocks, checking for backlash, indicating in drills in lathe turrets, indicating and
Picking up work offsets, creating new and editing CNC programs.
Experience with Cylindrical grinders, Broaches and Rack Rolling processes preferred, but not required.
High-level trouble shooting and problem-solving skills related to tool breakage, chatter, surface finish, runout issues, scrap, Work-Holding, etc.
Understanding of best practices for both machining and work holding techniques.
Possesses a good understanding of GD&T and develops processes and programs aimed at meeting the GD&T requirements.
Performs capability studies, produce prototype parts, sample orders.
Creates and provides training books with detailed set-up instructions for manufacturing technicians.
Uses written and verbal instructions, drawings, diagrams and schematics to accomplish tasks
Active member of new program launches teams.
Define written process procedures for machine changeovers
Creates and provides training books with detailed set-up instructions for manufacturing technicians.
PRODUCTION ENGAGEMENT
Perform daily Gemba walk for each work center
Analyze downtime trends
Develop continuous improvement culture with production employees
Responsible for developing / implementing continuous improvement actions against top production issues
Participate in production team meetings (monthly)
May be required to train and assist both, Team Leaders and machine Operators. At limited times may be required to train on off shifts
SCRAP REDUCTION
Provide detailed scrap reports per work center
Coordinate / lead overall plant scrap reduction, with focus on priority work centers from upper management
Develop & implement action items against top scrap elements
Monitor effectiveness of scrap reduction items
PRODUCTION LINE ANALYSIS
Perform takt time studies per work center as needed
Compare real time production analysis versus Quote Model Criteria's (tooling, cycle times, labor, etc.)
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum two-year technical degree or 5 years' minimum experience in manufacturing machining, and process position.
Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. IE root cause analysis are preferential.
Requires team-oriented leadership skills and continuing education/training mechanical engineering techniques.
INTER-RELATIONSHIPS
Maintains interface with all functional departments of plant.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical demands required occasional climbing.
Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and fine motor skills.
May be required to lift 50LBS
Environmental conditions: Exposure to noise, weather, moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, or machinery.

Process Engineer (Automation Engineer)
Reports to: Business Unit Manager
We are currently seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for debug and failure identification along with problem resolution on 4 automated assembly lines and various other injection molding and metal processing automations. This position is 80% hands-on troubleshooting on the floor working and 20% project work (projects born from troubleshooting mainly)

Responsibilities:
Conduct machine and process capability studies and make improvements as needed
Supports in FMEA, APQP and Control Plan creation and review process
Develop suggestions for investments & give recommendations
Conduct complex commissioning / acceptance of equipment and machines
Select released suppliers for indirect material, request and evaluate offers in coordination with supplier
Define process parameters and ensure adherence
Create and adapt work instructions
Develop automation concepts, support process development for new projects, coordinate with Industrial Engineering and implement
Prepare, evaluate and coordinate complex solution concepts constructively
Carry out complex and constructive examinations on function, layout and design of machines and electrical installations (feasibility), select/modify components
Develop and carry out the construction of smaller complex process solutions
Modify and implement complex existing processes, functions and elements constructively (e.g. extend existing installations)
Commissioning of processes and measuring systems
To program machine controls and teach robots
Ensure safety of machines and installations and design and implement preliminary tests (feasibility study and specifications)
Identify and implement potentials for savings
Develop and implement measures for process optimization, initiate implementation incl. new partial process solutions and modification of manufacturing processes
Participates in 8D problem-solving activities (internal/external), analyze complex alarms and remove root causes
Keep automation maintenance history up to date and ensure exchange of information in SharePoint
Support beyond BU-level in case of complex process changes and faults
Determine root causes for complaints and develop corrective actions
Plan spare parts requirements and initiate orders
Introduce employees to installations, instruct them and create training material
Supervision of interns and bachelor students
Ensure compliance with guidelines and regulations (environment according ISO14001, compliance, work safety) with company and BU-standards.
Initiate process improvement projects using data-driven and statistically designed experiments to enhance quality, reduce cost, enhance safety, and increase earnings
Assists quality department to verify process parameters and monitor functionality of quality related devices
On call when required

Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and minimum 3+ years relevant work experience
Skills Requirements:
Manufacturing and IATF Standard experience preferred
Technical writing and logical hands-on problem solving skills
Project management experience with cross functional teams
Ability to work in metric and inch
Knowledge of Data Bases and OT, IT connection, electrical installation high voltage
Thorough knowledge of statistics
