After Flannery and company launched a third bid to oust the company board, negotiations led to an agreement in April 1996.
Tesoro then gained its third refinery in August 1998 when it acquired a 108,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Anacortes, Washington, from Shell Oil Company for $280.1 million.
In early 1999, then, the company announced that it would seek to sell or spin off its exploration and production operations.
2000: An agreement is reached with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. to open and operate filling stations at Wal-Mart outlets under the name Mirastar.
2007: Acquired Los Angeles Refinery – Wilmington operations in Wilmington, Calif. as well as USA Gasoline™ brand and 138 retail sites
2010: Formed Tesoro Logistics LP, a master limited partnership that owns, operates, develops, and acquires logistics assets to gather crude oil and distribute, transport and store crude oil and refined products
2013: Expanded Los Angeles Refinery with acquisition of Carson, Calif. operations.
