General Motors test driver job description

The Cold Weather Development Centre is the primary test and validation centre for cold and durability testing of all General Motors products. The centre is currently seeking applications from individuals for the position of Durability Test Driver (up to 10 positions). Employment full time (40 hours per week), seasonal, and short in duration. The Cold Weather Development Centre is a 7 day per week operation with day and evening shifts.

The primary responsibility of a Test Driver is to drive and control the test vehicles safely. The second responsibility of a driver is to write comments about possible vehicle issues for the Test Engineering team to investigate, and in some cases discuss those issues with the Engineering team when additional details are required.

We are looking for a new colleague in the Vehicle Garage Department at our location in Livonia, Michigan.

**Your Tasks**

+ Performing test drives in various prototype vehicles at the company's test track in northern Michigan.

+ Conduct engineering specification tests, compile test data and transfer test data to the network for analysis.

+ Assist engineers during installation and transfer of test measurement equipment.

+ Support customer vehicle demonstrations as required.

+ Assist with delivery or procurement of winter test supplies on a limited basis.

+ Interface and communicate with both internal and external customers on technical matters.

+ Maintain appropriate engineering procedures throughout the product development process to achieve engineering deliverables which include cost, reliability and manufacturing objectives.

+ Provide assistance with facility maintenance on a limited basis.

**Your Profile**

+ Minimum of High School Diploma or equilivant. Associate Degree in Automotive Technology or Automotive Certifications preferred.

+ Valid driver license required with CDL preferred.

+ Basic computer and vehicle instrumentation skills required.

+ Vehicle test training will be provided during orientation as well as "on the job" training including health & safety procedures.

This position involves travel to Raco, Michigan during winter months.

Overview:

The Vehicle Test Driver is in charge of operating a prototype vehicle while performing a series of tests and scene

captures.

**Responsibilities:**

● Carry out in-vehicle capturing and testing as required across different projects.

● Understand vehicle test equipment and debug as needed - reporting all concerns to the team.

● Adherence to driving logs, policies and procedures in place for test vehicles.

● Communication of vehicle issues as they arise with vehicle controls.

● Gain an understanding of the function being tested and find challenging use cases in the real world.

● Responsible for vehicles' security at all times - overnight parking, ferry crossings, etc.

● Acknowledge local road laws by making him\herself aware of all regulations prior to testing.

● Organize payment of all acquired fines and tolls in a timely manner.

● Develop proficient knowledge of applicable SW packages.

• Must have a valid driver's license with clean driving record.

• B1, B2, Tier II or Level 2 certification or equivalent license/certification preferred but not required.

• 2+ years' experience with vehicle level testing preferred.

• Experience with data acquisition systems (computers) installed in the test vehicles and conducting specified maneuvers to test and record data to prove the performance of the system.

• Must have experience monitoring signals with the data acquisition system.

• Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills, communicating in English clearly and effectively.

• Computer proficiency with basic computer programs including the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Well motivated, self-starter, high integrity and team player.

• Able to work in a team environment, flexible, and able to multitask to meet project timing (time management skills).

• Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
