1921

1923

In 1923, Teton County was created despite the fact that it did not meet the population and property valuations requirements.

1925

The Kelly Flood - The Gros Ventre Slide On June 23, 1925 following weeks of heavy rain, approximately 50,000,000 cubic yards (38,000,000 m3) of rock slid off the north face of Sheep Mountain, and into a valley formed by the Gros Ventre River.

1927

On May 18, 1927 the town was destroyed when a natural dam formed by the Gros Ventre landslide two years earlier collapsed and completely flooded the town.

1939

The first local ski area, Snow King, had opened in Jackson in 1939 with a rope tow that allowed skiers to ascend to the top of the hill.

1946

The first of these was construction of an airport; the first commercial flights arrived in 1946.

1950

Second was expansion of the park to its present size in 1950, catering largely to summer tourists.

1955

Given its central location in the Jackson Hole valley, Moose has been the setting for several motion pictures, including The Far Horizons in 1955.

1958

The photo of the ski race on Snow King is number 1958.1444.001 in the collection of the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum.

1989

Landfilling operations ceased at Horsethief Canyon in 1989 and a trash transfer station was built to facilitate waste removal to a landfill outside of Teton County.
