REPORTS TO: Transportation Director & Administrative Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION: The job of Bus Driver was established for the purpose/s of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ensures the safety of each passenger while on the bus in accordance with board policies and rules. Operation of the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation. Perform safe loading and unloading procedures at authorized stops according to assigned schedule. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines. Establishing and maintaining rapport with passengers. Maintain discipline among passengers. Maintain effective contact with the public. Complete required reports on time in the prescribed manner. Satisfactorily complete required training and first aid programs. Arrive at bus location 20 minutes before time to leave on route. Spend ½ hour per day (2 ½ hours per week) maintaining a clean interior and exterior of the bus in accordance with standard procedures. Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the vehicle in a safe operating condition. Conduct Evacuation Drills two times per year according to state law. Submit to random drug and alcohol testing, state law. Must pass an annual DOT physical examination by licensed physician Other duties as assigned. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level. Promotions are at the discretion of the agency. Making determinations in compliance with laws and regulations that may lead to arrests, seizure of property, fines, and/or penalties based on findings. OR for the GS-7 grade level: Education Substitution:A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (3.0 or higher), or (3) honor society membership; OR one (1) full year of graduate-level education. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work: OR Combination of Experience and Education:A combination of specialized work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level AND graduate level education from an accredited college or university. Formal Training:You will be required to complete a paid pre-academy orientation for approximately two (2) weeks at your home port. You will then attend a 101-day training program - CBP Field Operations Academy - conducted at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) located in Glynco, GA. This training consists of basic law enforcement skills, immigration laws, firearms training, examination of cargo/bags/merchandise, physical fitness, etc. Candidates assigned to the southern border, Miami, or Puerto Rico duty locations must attend and pass an online Spanish training program, which will be completed at their home port.
