Pros of working at Texas Department of Agriculture

The staff. From the top down, we work together to promote agricultural policies and communicate them to the public in a reliable and responsible manner. My colleagues are supportive, collaborative, and willing to pitch in in a pinch.

Cons of working at Texas Department of Agriculture

Environmental disasters like the Panhandle fires. We all work on tight schedules and have to drop everything as well as work through while we pile on to address emergent issues that affect Texas farmers and ranchers. This is also a pro, as we collaborate and remind one another that the work is honorable, and our producers are as well.

Texas Department of Agriculture Benefits

The obvious: health insurance. Less obvious: free parking in the Capitol Complex and the ability to park after hours for events nearby. Also, the excitement of working in the Capitol Complex is rewarding and uplifting.
