    Performs complex maintenance and construction supervisory work. Work involves planning, assigning, and scheduling offender staff for the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and equipment; and supervising the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Plans, schedules, and oversees the work of offender maintenance staff; and inspects work to ensure compliance with standards and safety and building regulations. B. Operates motor vehicle to transport refuse for appropriate disposal. C. Conducts inspections of buildings, equipment, and grounds for security and needed repairs; and receives requests for maintenance and repairs and initiates preventive maintenance and repair work. D. Assists in maintaining security of assigned offenders. * Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A. Education, Experience, and Training 1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED. 2. Maintenance experience preferred. 3. Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL). 4. Valid Medical Examiner's certification statement issued within the last two years. * Must be registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. ************************************ Must maintain valid license for continued employment in position. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A UTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER The Utility Maintenance Worker that will perform a variety of manual tasks associated with the construction and repair of water distribution and wastewater connection facilities as assigned.     Gas Technician I's are responsible for the construction, maintenance and operations of the City's gas distribution system Responsibilities * Keep crew truck clean and assist with inventory of parts and supplies to keep the truck stocked * Clean parts and tools and perform daily maintenance and/or calibration of equipment * Use small hand tools, tapping and stopple equipment * Perform semi-skilled and common labor work such as paint and/or wrap pipe, cutting and threading pipe, pipe-fitting and assist in other pipeline maintenance as required * Prepare tap cards and/or various inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Department procedures and/or regulatory requirements. * Maintains map books * Assist in pressure tests, purging and putting in service new and existing gas mains in the city Gas distribution system * Operate a 1 ton truck, 2 ½ ton crew truck, winch truck, dump truck, pick-up truck, pole and float trailers, ditchers, air compressors and welding equipment * Inspect and operate backhoe, trenching machine, air compressor, and other semi-heavy maintenance and construction equipment * May be asked to perform other duties as assigned Position Type and Typical Hours of Work * Temporary - Full Time * Earnings from this job are not covered under Social Security per the Windfall Elimination Provision but are subject to a FICA Alternative Plan.
