    The Guest Services Specialist (GSS) is a student who is employed by University Student Housing to assist in the daily management and operation of a Residence Hall/Complex during the summer season. As a member of the Residence Life staff, the GSS works with Residence Life Coordinators, Graduate Hall Coordinators/Graduate Assistants, Interns for University Student Housing, Senior Specialists and Summer Operations professional staff in creating a positive environment for all campus guests. Weekly work will include desk coverage at residence halls, weekly meetings, Housekeeping assistance, building preparation, and other summer operational tasks. Many times, the GSS is the first contact individuals experience in the residence halls and at Texas Tech University. Requisition ID 43216BR Travel Required None Major/Essential Functions Administration * Work shifts at 24-hour service desk, including late night and weekend shifts (transportation not provided). * Provide excellent customer service in person and via phone through a residence hall service desk. * Assist Residence Life Staff in any summer camp and conference preparation tasks, such as creating key packets and posting signage. * Issue keys and equipment during assigned shifts. * Distribute main and packages in accordance with federal mail guidelines. * Communicate effectively with students, professional staff, key stakeholders such as Housekeeping/Facilities, and visitors. * Utilize departmental software and databases necessary for the operation of the residential complex, including but not limited to Iris, Roompact, EzTrackIt, and StarRez. * Attend scheduled staff meetings in addition to any emergency, team and individual meetings. * Read reports, gather and compile information and prepare reports. Crisis Response * Monitor security of residence hall facilities and notify on-call staff of any concerns. * Follow directions provided by University Student Housing professional staff in the event of an emergency which occurs during your assigned shift. * Work with University Student Housing staff and external stakeholders, including the SCS/SCA On-Call, Coordinator On-Call, Night Operations, Texas Tech Police Department, and Crisis Hotline, to respond to concerns or incidents within the residence halls. Departmental and Campus Support * Support departmental initiatives within Residence Life including Summer School Housing, Student Leadership and Summer Conferences. * Familiarize self with area and campus resources designed to enhance the guest experience, promote student success, and make necessary referrals. In addition to learning how to operate the camera, this position may require students to learn about the production side of a sports broadcast. This includes setting up and tearing down equipment for the sport's production, pulling in audio/video feed from the cameras and soundboard, trimming live feed for replays, downloading and overlaying graphics, and directing camera operators and producers during the live sporting event. There will be opportunities to call games a play-by-play and color commentator. Required Qualifications * Setting up all the camera and production equipment before the game. * Operating the camera equipment throughout the entirety of the broadcast. * Tearing down all the camera and production equipment after the game. * Pull in the audio/video feed for the live-stream event. * Download and overlay graphics for the broadcast. * Trim down and play replays during the live sporting event. * Direct camera and production crew during the sport's broadcast. * Call games as a play-by-play or color commentator. * No experience is necessary, but preference will be given to students who have taken Beginning Video Production (COMM/MM 1317), and/or Advanced Video Production (COMM/MM 4365) and who will also be enrolled and willing to work during the summer. * All entry-level positions start as a camera operator. * Other duties will apply while you train on the job. * Producing, Directing, Play by Play Commentator, and Color Commentator are advanced positions. These positions require more experience and come with a higher pay scale.
