Texas Tech Physicians Department of Family and Community Medicine is a proud partner of University Medical Center in providing hospitalist care. The Family Medicine Hospitalist Team is made up of 18 Faculty Physicians, who provide hospitalist services for UMC/ 500 bed hospital.
Rank of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor and applicable salary are dependent upon candidate's qualifications and experience.
Provide Hospitalist Services at University Medical Center Hospital. This includes patient care, patient admissions, patient rounding, and if needed, emergency night coverage.
Performing such medical examinations as are necessary and appropriate for all patients in accordance with all canons of professional ethics.
The physician schedule will be "blocking type" rotations with physician working day shifts, one (1) block on duty and one (1) block off duty. A block consists of (7) days (Tuesday through Monday). The schedule assigned is to assure quality patient care and appropriate coverage and functions of TTUHSC/UMC . Shift begins from 7:00 a.m. To 7:00 p.m.
Keeping and maintaining appropriate records, reports, claims and correspondence necessary in connection with all professional services performed by the physician.
Other duties as assigned by the Hospitalist Medical Director.
Completion of a Doctor of Medicine degree
Valid professional Texas license or letter stating application for license is in the process.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.

Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients. Renders medical judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit. Works under general direction of the Unit Medical Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Directly supervises 2 to 4 Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners in the unit health services.
Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures.
Is responsible for providing primary ambulatory medical care to the offenders of TDCJ. This includes taking an appropriate patient history, examination of patients, ordering lab or x-ray as clinically indicated, and planning and execution of treatment. Requires special knowledge and skills in general adult medicine, orthopedics, and emergency medicine.
Provides an environment conducive to safety and security for patients, visitors, and employees. Assesses the risk to the patient and employee safely and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with approved and appropriate standards of patient care and appropriate standards of patient care as well as the policies of TTUHSC and TDCJ-ID.
Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating and directing nursing staff.
May perform minor surgical and orthopedic procedures commensurate with medical competency.
Refers patients to medical specialists when appropriate and necessary, and coordinates medical care with said specialists.
Provides immediate care for medical emergencies of offenders, employees and on-site visitors.
Participate in regional after hours call.
Requires special knowledge and skills in general medicine, orthopedics, and emergency medicine.
Ability to work under pressure and to maintain patience and self control under these conditions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Supervises and coordinates efforts by other physicians, and physician extenders assigned to this unit.
Provides coverage for appropriate and timely care to infirmary patients admitted to the unit. Manages bed space appropriately.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Faculty responsibilities are tailored to individual expertise and appointment track, with flexibility to emphasize clinical, educational, or research missions. All faculty maintain clinical practice and contribute to educational activities commensurate with their appointment.
Clinical Responsibilities
Hospital Medicine (for faculty with inpatient focus):
Provide attending coverage or direct patient care on general medicine inpatient services with daily rounds, patient evaluation, and treatment plan development
Manage patients admitted with common medical conditions including pneumonia, heart failure, COPD exacerbations, acute kidney injury, sepsis, diabetic complications, and other general medical conditions
Lead interdisciplinary rounds with nursing, pharmacy, case management, physical therapy, and social work
Make admission, discharge, and transfer decisions with attention to appropriate level of care

Position Summary

All faculty in the Department of Medicine are expected to provide high-quality clinical care, participate in teaching actively and engage in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing clinical education, contributing to research activities on campus, and participating in other scholarly initiatives. The selected candidate will also serve as an Associate Medical Director of the Biocontainment Care Unit (BCU), an advanced clinical space for the care of persons with high consequence infectious diseases which is the federally designated Regional Emerging and Special Pathogens Treatment Center for HHS Region 6.

About the Division of Geriatrics
The Division of Geriatrics at UTMB is dedicated to improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults through excellence in clinical care, education, and research. With 8 faculty, 8 advanced practice providers and 2 to 4 fellows per year, the Division provides comprehensive geriatric care across diverse settings, including ambulatory clinics, inpatient consult services, long-term care facilities, and the home environment through our House Call Program.
The House Call Program is a cornerstone of the Division's mission-delivering compassionate, high-quality care to homebound older adults. This innovative program enables faculty and trainees to provide continuity of care, promote aging in place, and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations by addressing the complex medical, functional, and social needs of each patient.
The Division also leads UTMB's Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Unit, a dedicated inpatient program designed to optimize outcomes for hospitalized older adults. Position Summary

* Provides an environment conducive to safety and security for patients, visitors, and employees. Assesses the risk to the patient and employee safely and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with approved and appropriate standards of patient care and appropriate standards of patient care as well as the policies of TTUHSC and TDCJ-ID.
* Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating and directing nursing staff.
* May perform minor surgical and orthopedic procedures commensurate with medical competency.
* Refers patients to medical specialists when appropriate and necessary, and coordinates medical care with said specialists.
* Provides immediate care for medical emergencies of offenders, employees and on-site visitors.
* Participate in regional after hours call.

The Department of Primary & Community Care, Division of Primary & Preventive Care, is seeking a full time Physician for a medical school affiliated Family Medicine clinical practice located in the Rio Grande Valley. The faculty member is expected to maintain an outpatient clinical practice that may include supervision of residents and advanced practitioners and teaching of medical students. Academic rank will be awarded commensurate with academic experience and credentials.
Minimum Qualifications
Current Board certification in Family Medicine, possess/able to obtain a valid Texas medical license, and qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Primary & Community Care. Proven experience building inclusive, trust-based relationships with medical staff and a strong reputation for engaging and supporting patient populations.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience in outstanding clinical practice, preferably in an academic setting with demonstration of strong leadership skills, and success in teaching residents and medical students. Bilingual/Medical Spanish is preferred but not required.
