The Animal Medical Center company history timeline

1910

On May 12, 1910, the Women's Auxiliary separated from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and they incorporated themselves as the "New York Women's League for Animals".

The clinic opened in 1910 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

1914

The "Hospital of the New York Women's League for Animals" was established in 1914 at 350 Lafayette Street in New York City with Bruce Blair as the resident veterinarian.

The new animal hospital opened in 1914, just down the street from the original clinic’s location.

1954

In 1954, the League proposed to create an institute for veterinary studies.

1959

In 1959, the League voted to change the name to the Animal Medical Center, and thus the modern-day AMC was born.

1960

In January 1960, construction began on a new 4 million dollar facility for the Animal Medical Center on 62nd Street, just west of the East River.

1962

In 1962 it opened to the public.

1983

In 1983, AMC launched an intensive postgraduate course in clinical veterinary medicine.

1997

I-20 Animal Medical Center’s present facility opened in October 1997.
