Job Description
The Animal Medical Center of Mid America (AMCMA) is looking for an experienced Hospital Manager for our Maryland Heights veterinary hospital, who will be a valued resource for the Medical Director in all hospital operations. You will have an active role in decision-making responsibilities over the staffing and the business in general, and be supported with specialized teams in Marketing, Accounting, and Human Resources.
The position is fast-paced and is multi-faceted; our AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital offers digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory, therapeutic laser, full-service dentistry, and a complete range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. As part of the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO), we serve animals from our shelters and the general public.
You will be responsible for:
Supervise approximately 20 Veterinary Assistants and Registered Vet Technicians.
Maintain an environment that is positive and engaging for employees while holding a high standard of care for our patients.
Maintain strong working relationships with employees throughout the organization; collaborate and partner with others to maximize efficiency and idea generation.
Assist with interviewing and making hiring decisions.
Create work schedules - employees work 4 10-hour shifts, Monday through Saturday (the Practice Manager can choose between work 4 10's or 5 8-hour days).
Ensure support staff compliance with established performance standards through accurate performance appraisals, coaching/training and corrective actions when necessary.
Maintain optimal inventory levels of both medical and non-medical supplies, and approving invoices for the hospital.
Partner with the Assistant Supervisor to create and maintain training, including cross-training in surgery.
Work with our Call Center Supervisor to help maintain communication with scheduling or patient care coordination.
Serve as a resource for clients in regard to concerns or problems regarding customer service, practice policies, non-payment and/or payment options.
Work with the Sr. Practice Manager to maintain consistency on policies and protocols between locations.
Investigate the circumstances around bites and other safety incidents to ensure that employees are properly trained and are acting safely.
Assist with overseeing cleanliness/maintenance needs of hospital.
Partner with the Medical Director to schedule and conduct staff/doctor meetings and staff events.
Assist the Medical Director with the preparation and maintenance of necessary reports, records, policies and procedures as required by the State of Missouri, the DEA and the Humane Society of Missouri.
Ensure compliance with AAHA Accredited Practice Medical Standards of Care and assists in maintaining AAHA Accreditation.
Implement new protocols and policies as needed as discussed by the AMCMA management team.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

On average, the ratio is expected to be about 20%-30% leadership duties and 70%-80% veterinarian duties.
Leadership Responsibilities (approximately 20-30% of time):

+ Oversee and train associates on professional, efficient and exceptional client service (lead by example), to include client education about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services, marketing campaigns, and other related information; effectively resolve client issues.
+ Follow all Banfield protocols and practices and be responsible for ensuring that associates achieve practice priorities while building our culture and brand.
+ Identify potential "bottlenecks" and formulate solutions to remove barriers in medical operations that would impede the doctors from providing world class care.
+ Partner with the Medical Director, Field Director, and Practice Manager (if applicable) to interview, select, train, develop, coach, mentor and, if necessary, discipline and terminate hospital associates.

+ Provide veterinary services. The amount of time spent in clinical role, seeing patients, will depend on various factors. These include the numbers of hospitals, number of direct reports, the productivity and performance of each hospital. All ACOS should expect to spend a percentage of their time in role, and this will be aligned upon a case-by-case basis in partnership with the DVQ. This role is 100% hospital based and considered a working manager role.
+ Oversee the coaching program for newly hired veterinarians to ensure an engaging experience which results in a productive doctor knowledgeable in Banfield quality standards, Optimum Wellness Plans, processes, and workflows. Ensure experiential learning to develop clinical, surgical, and dental skills based on individual veterinarian needs.
+ Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality and Talent Acquisition team to recruit veterinary talent. Act as a brand ambassador in the local veterinary community. Deliver an excellent hospital experience to student externs, student job program participants, and veterinary candidates during hospital observations.
+ Work with associate doctors to ensure they have the skills to achieve their productivity goals through delivery of high-quality medicine, a focus on preventive care, providing a great client experience, and partnership with the hospital team.
+ Deliver veterinary operations KPI's of assigned hospitals through their leadership of the hospital and their partnership with the practice managers. Partner with practice manager to develop, execute, and revise plans which achieve targeted KPI's through hospital performance. The Animal Medical Center of Mid-America is looking to hire a Clinic Assistant or a Registered Vet Technician with veterinary hospital experience to work in the AAHA-accredited veterinary clinic and surgery center in Maryland Heights. Clinic Assistant:
This position plays an integral role in assisting the veterinary staff and technicians in the clinical and surgical treatment of animals in the clinic. This individual should have animal handling and restraining experience, experience in a veterinary hospital setting, be extraordinary at establishing and maintaining strong working relationships, and maintain a positive and professional public image at all times. Excellent customer service, team skills, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment are necessary. Must be available for shifts Monday through Saturday. Minimum starting pay is $14/hour.
Registered Vet Tech:
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual that possesses knowledge of animal health care, animal restraint techniques, and surgery preparation in addition to being detail-oriented and having excellent communication and multi-tasking skills. A commitment to client education and communication is required for this position.
Our Registered Veterinary Technician will:
Assist veterinarians in animal restraint and use of surgical equipment,
Prepare animals for treatment and/or surgery,
Maintain medical records,
Monitor anesthetic procedures,
Administer and dispense medications,
Apply splints/bandages, and
Clean/disinfect medical and surgical equipment.
The ideal candidate will be excellent at maintaining strong working relationships with HSMO coworkers and customers and maintaining a positive and professional public image at all times. This individual should have animal handling/restraining experience, be able to lift animals, and have experience in a veterinary hospital setting. Must be available for shifts Monday through Saturday. Minimum starting pay is $16/hour.
