GENERAL SUMMARY
The Vice President of Finance is a key member of Anti-Cruelty's senior leadership team, serving as a strategic partner to the President and Board of Directors. This position provides financial leadership that ensures the organization's long-term sustainability and mission alignment. The VP of Finance oversees accounting, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and investments, while also supporting strategic growth, risk management, and cross-departmental collaboration.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Strategic Leadership and Planning
Advance the mission, vision, plans, and goals of Anti-Cruelty in collaboration with the President and Senior Leadership team.
Provide financial insights that shape organizational strategy, sustainability, and growth opportunities.
Align finance and administrative efforts with strategic priorities and initiatives.
Advise the Board of Directors and Finance Committee on financial performance, forecasts, risks, and opportunities.
Contribute to organizational strategic planning, decision-making, and risk management.
Contribute to a culture of Praise, Engagement, Trust, and Support.
Financial Management and Oversight
Lead the organization's financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance.
Develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget in collaboration with program and operations leadership.
Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting for internal management, Board committees, funders, and regulatory agencies.
Oversee cash flows, reserves, and investment management.
Ensure accurate integration of donor and fundraising revenue data into financial systems to support effective development strategy.
Compliance, Risk and Internal Controls
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, nonprofit reporting standards, and donor restrictions.
Anticipate and manage financial risks, ensuring Anti-Cruelty remains compliant and audit-ready.
Oversee the maintenance of records of all contracts, leases, grants, and other legal obligations.
Team Leadership and Culture
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
Build strong cross-departmental relationships to support program and operational effectiveness.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
Thorough knowledge of general accounting principles and Financial Accounting Standard Board rulings.
Proven executive leadership skills, including the ability to inspire, influence, and build trust across departments and with the Board of Directors.
Expertise in nonprofit accounting systems (e.g., Blackbaud, QuickBooks, etc).
Strong communication skills, writing and verbal.
Strong analytic abilities.
Ability to work under tight schedule and meet deadlines.
A strong, collaborative team orientation with that ability to work with a diverse workforce.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. CPA strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in finance leadership, including at least 5 years managing teams. Non-profit finance experience strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role requires the ability to work onsite in an office environment and at a computer for extended periods.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to attend evening or weekend Board meetings and represent the organization at key events as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Uphold the PETS work culture agreement through Praise, Engagement, Trust, and Support.
Stay up to date with Anti-Cruelty programs to optimize owner retention efforts.
Accurately and safely administer vaccines and preventatives to incoming animals.
Maintains a strong working knowledge of animal behavior and will have the skills to objectively assess behavior upon intake.
Examine and assess initial health and well being of each animal and place on appropriate pathway.
When applicable make euthanasia decisions and carry out euthanasia according to Illinois law.
Administer initial vaccines and preventatives to incoming foster and owner guardian surrendered animals.
Manage reception; schedule intake appointments, take payments, answer calls and emails in a timely manner, and receive animals.
Obtain accurate and detailed information on animals during counseling and intake while imparting Anti-Cruelty's policies to clients.
Engage in ongoing behavior training and continued education.
Provide counseling and resources to those in need of assistance to retain their pets.
Review return to owner requests and work with owners to connect to programs for assistance when necessary.
Follow microchip research protocols and laws and ensure all paperwork and tracking is completed.
Be familiar with and follow all applicable standard operating procedures to provide best care to our animals.
Accurately input information into Anti-Cruelty's shelter management software.
Have adequate understanding of Anti-Cruelty's adoption and disposition policies and be able to communicate them to the public.
Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
Respect the physical plant and equipment; report all building, caging and environmental problems to management or maintenance staff members as soon as possible.
Ensure that all equipment is in good repair, adequately stocked and kept neatly in its appropriate place. Stocking can be accomplished using wheeled carts.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Train and lead volunteer groups of 15-60 people during sessions to ensure distribution goals and quality standards are being met.
Interact with all volunteers to ensure a positive, friendly and safe environment, leading to return visits.
Execute pre and post session Processing Center: set up, clean up, break down and reset 3-4 times a day to effectively meet volunteer/session requirements and safety standards.
Execute Processing Center operations (i.e. organization, efficiency, workflow, supplies, inventory and cleanliness).
Execute all dynamic production objectives pertaining to the processing of incoming books.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Upholds the PETS Work Culture Agreement through Praise, Engagement, Trust, and Support.
Accurately enter all donations, event revenue, and contributions including white mail, credit cards, EFTs, and in-kind gifts in Raiser's Edge in a timely manner;
Work with the Manager of the Donor Operations and Accounting Department to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the database;
Prepare and process appropriate donation acknowledgments/tax receipts for donations $250+ including tribute gifts;
Prepare and process tribute gifts and send out tribute acknowledgement letters/cards in a timely manner;
Coordinate and support the execution of select development programs including vehicle donations; Amazon, Chewy, and Walmart wish lists; other donation drives;
Monitor, process and acknowledge gifts through online giving portals in a timely manner;
Record, facilitate, process, and acknowledge in-kind donations;
Support fundraising activities by providing reports and other metrics to inform data-driven decisions and the quarterly board report;
Enters new records for prospects, event invitees, and other new constituent records as needed;
Assists with the reconciliation of gifts with the Accounting Department at the end of each month as well as at the end of the fiscal and calendar years;
Provide support as needed for major fundraising and donor stewardship events;
Support the Mission Advancement team as needed for outreach opportunities;
Monitor and respond to AC development emails and phone calls, and provide administrative support;
Work on special projects or other assignments as needed;
Cross-train on tasks and assignments of the Donor Operations Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge or other CRM software;
Comfortable with phone communication and assisting constituents with donations;

Experience:
