Working at The Arc Gateway

Spending time with the clients doing activities all day can be fun. Some of the guys are funny.

There is no training when you start. You are expected to jump right in even though they don’t tell you what the daily routine is. Certain areas have aggressive workers that speak to staff and clients any kind of way. You are expected to just leave it alone because the need for staff. Management doesn’t step in and correct staff bad behaviors. You are expected to deal with all types of bad behaviors and the ratios are too high for the type of behaviors in the area.

Weekends off. Paid holidays.

I’m not really sure what the CEO does during the day. Leadership needs to realize we do work with individuals with special needs. They aren’t going to be able to or want to do all the things they expect them to do.

Truly anonymously ask workers what they think. No one is going to tell the truth unless they are on the way out the door. I hear Arc Gateway used to be fun many years ago. It’s now just a “day sitter” and dealing with behavioral problems.

Research

The pay isn’t enough to deal with all that goes on during the day.

It’s diverse.

When I can sit back and actually get the personality out of the clients. You can find out a lot about the guys when you aren’t being rushed to do things all day.
