The Building Center company history timeline

1977

1977: Son Harry Seigle becomes company president.

1979

The grand opening of this new facility was held in 1979.

1981

In 1981 the Building Centre started exploring the new world of information technology, which in those days was served by primitive computer hardware and lacked the universal connectivity of the world wide web.

1983

In 1983, Seigle's Millwork Center manufacturing operation moved into larger facilities in Elgin.

1984

In 1984 the company was renamed Seigle's Home & Building Centers to more accurately reflect its commitment to both contractors and homeowners, as well as its intentions of competing with the superstore chains.

1990

By 1990, Seigle's was reporting record growth.

1995

1995: Son Mark Seigle becomes president of the company.

1998

In 1998, company founder Harold Seigle died at the age of 89 after suffering a stroke.

2000

Sales in 2000 reached $196 million, an increase of 3 percent over the previous year and an impressive figure given intensifying competition for market share in the Chicago area.

2006

The new store and the lumberyard were still two separate divisions until 2006.

2009

2016

In 2016, the store completed a remodel project.
