Job Description The HVAC/R Service Technician will provide service, installation, and preventative maintenance to commercial HVAC/R equipment and systems. Job Duties: Installs heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and systems. Inspects systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety, identifying necessary repairs, and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance. Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Cleans air conditioning and heating units (e.g. coils, condensation pans, drain lines, cooling towers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring units are operating properly and at peak performance. Repairs various items, systems and/or components of HVAC/R equipment. Procures equipment and supplies to ensure availability of required items to complete the necessary installation/repair. Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders. Maintains tools and/or equipment. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours. CALL ROTATION Demonstrate the ability to satisfy customers through the delivery of the company's and your personal service. Job Requirements: Minimum 3-5 years commercial and industrial HVAC/R experience including but not limited to: Walk-in freezers and coolers Reach-in freezers and coolers Refrigerated serving lines Compressor and condensing unit rooms Ice machines Chiller experience a PLUS. Completion of High School or GED EPA Type I & II or Universal Valid Driver's License. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Completion of Trade School or Associate's Degree Experience with refrigeration applications such as reach-ins, walk-ins, and ice machines EPA Universal Physical Job Requirements: An HVAC/R Service Technician is required to: Maintain a stationary position, primarily seated/operating a motor vehicle for up to 30% of the daily work schedule. Have the ability to stand for prolonged periods routinely, throughout the daily work schedule. Have the ability to walk around the job site, to business meetings, etc . Have the ability to operate a computer and other industry specific productivity machinery, such as a calculator and telephone. Have the ability to talk/hear/communicate with Cary Services office staff and/or customers by phone or in person, exchanging accurate information in these situations. Have the ability to repeatedly lift irregularly shaped tools/hardware weighing 50 pounds, throughout the work day. Have the ability to climb ladders and work on building roofs productively at heights of 50 feet. Conducts extensive self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines. Completes certifications as required by the company. Other duties related to the installing, commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems and energy management systems, as assigned. Assists in the design and configuration of building control systems as defined by the contract documents. Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, and bill of material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required. Assists in developing and testing software programs necessary to operate the system per the project requirements' intent. Compiles and/or completes project as built and close-out documentation. Assists in the coordination and creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation. Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned. Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation. May provide field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software. Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues. Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control system. Participates in release meeting with project field team. Minimum of Six (6) years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry. This includes buildings, chiller plants and systems. Vocational School program graduate or associate's degree in a technical field, or two years' experience in servicing electronic and or mechanical systems. Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment. Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites. Possesses the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people. Demonstrate effective writing skills as well as understanding of programs and software applications. Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems and other building subsystems.
