The Chicago High School for the Arts seeks an advisor for the First Year Studio course for the 2025-2026 school year in the Visual Arts department. Position Overview: First Year Studio is a 3-hour open studio for 9th-graders every Monday and Wednesday from 2 pm-5 pm. This is an open studio session for First Years to work on topics and materials of their choice. These will include working on individual art pieces due for their foundational art courses, as well as art competitions and exhibition submissions involving portfolio development, artwork documentation, resumes, and applications.

Position Summary: Writer's Studio is a junior-level class that emphasizes the writer's stylistic choices, use of voice and revision. The course will encourage students to investigate and discover how their styles and voices contribute to the effect and meaning of their work. Instruction in Writer's Studio will focus on the following: * The Studio will emphasize aspects of writing (particularly Creative Nonfiction) through mini-lessons, exercises, and experiences. * Students will be given significant time to write during each Studio, and frequent individual coaching sessions will guide students through the writing process and address individual needs. * Students will workshop their pieces. They will read each other's work and provide supportive, constructive, and clear feedback. * Additional lessons will be given based on trends and patterns in student work. * Students will develop ideas and new pieces based on individual interest and experiences. The ideal candidate for this position is a versatile and experienced artistic writer with the passion and skills to create a learning environment that will offer a rigorous pre-professional arts training. Candidates should have previous experience working with and instructing high school-age students. The instructor of this course will center the curriculum on developing critical thinking, production, and presentation skills. Instructors at ChiArts are committed to upholding antiracism, restorative practices, and community values. Instructors will be required to differentiate instruction when designing lesson and unit plans that assess student achievement, and encourage skill development and critical thinking. Writer's Studio: Style, Voice and Revision: A three-hour class takes place on Fridays from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. This is a year-long course.

POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the appropriate Columbia College Chicago School Director, the Part-Time Teaching Artist is responsible for the design and delivery of foundational courses in the areas of visual art, theater, dance, and music. In partnership with the Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts Education (DAE), Columbia College Chicago presents RE:ALIZE, the premier early college arts program in Chicago. Drawing high school juniors and seniors without robust arts access at their home schools to Columbia College Chicago and the Wells campus, RE:ALIZE provides a two-year sequence of standards-based, culturally relevant, rigorous coursework. In addition to completing 12 college credits in their artistic discipline through Dual Enrollment courses, RE:ALIZE students will participate in weekly workshops at Wells Community Academy High School, and complete work-based learning opportunities within their field. Each student graduates as an artistically-minded, analytical lifelong learner whose RE:ALIZE experience culminates in the presentation of a Senior Portfolio This position is part-time, continued employment is contingent on available funding for position.
