💛 Head of Discovery
Clubhouse Job In San Francisco, CA Or Remote
About Us
Life is better when you're with friends.
Our product studio was founded on this belief. Each day we get to wake up and invent new products that help us deepen friendships and make new ones - products we want to use with our friends. We are backed by a16z and dozens of the best angel investors in the world, and we have years of runway, which allows us to stay heads down and aim big. Our first product, Clubhouse, has become a home for millions of people around the world - who use it to meet new friends, have fun and join amazing conversations throughout the day. We expect that our next products will use AI to bring friends together in ways never before possible.
If you are a talented builder who's interested in joining us, we'd love to talk.
The Role
The Clubhouse app is our flagship product, with a strong base of passionate users around the world. Our roadmap for it is an exciting one, as AI opens up entirely new ways to bring people together - from unlocking new ways to fuel recommendations, to launching magical new tools for live conversation, to exploring novel ways for humans and AIs to interact.
As the Head of Discovery for the Clubhouse app, you'll be directly responsible for shaping this roadmap - working closely with our CEO, Head of Growth, Head of Product, and the rest of the team to build something amazing for the world.
We are a remote friendly-company - with our headquarters in San Francisco and a strong commitment to ensuring people can do great work here and thrive without having to live near an office. This role is open to candidates across the U.S.Who you are
You are an experienced builder of world-class Discovery systems. You have at least 7 years of battle‑tested experience leading teams and strategy in recommendations (e.g. feed ranking, push notifications, and search). You have hands-on experience building and executing from high-level strategy to detailed experiments within the Discovery landscape.
You're a systematic thinker and bring structure to tough problems. You take fuzzy, ambiguous problems and cut through them with clear mental models and first-principles thinking. You break down complexity into crisp goals, sharp strategies, and roadmaps that teams can rally behind. You bring order, focus, and momentum to the hardest parts of the product.
You have strong product sense. You're able to think deeply about user needs - both functional and emotional - and craft recommendation systems that solve those needs. You have a track record of shipping products that users love.
You move quickly and ship. As a team, we ship to end users at least twice a week and aim to include meaningful improvements in every release. You are no different. You scope things tightly, sequence them properly, focus on the most impactful things, and hit your deadlines. When you're involved, product teams move significantly more quickly.
You're an owner and have bias towards action. You assign action items to yourself, take pride in unblocking people, and goal yourself on outputs rather than inputs. You don't like recurring meetings and you don't take 30 minutes if you don't need to.
You're a strong communicator. You're a strong written and verbal communicator; you can capture the essence of complex situations quickly and communicate them to technical and non-technical partners.
You're scrappy and entrepreneurial. You like to build and ship and have a bias towards getting things done. You thrive in fast paced environments and view ambiguity as an opportunity to lead Clubhouse closer to its mission.
You are a team player. You have a low-ego, put the team's success first, and believe that fostering a collaborative and diverse environment is not only integral to the team's well-being but also crucial for driving innovation and achieving long-term success.
What you will do
You'll drive the strategy and roadmap for the entire Discover product that powers Clubhouse. You will not be one in a sea of big tech or SaaS PMs, working to optimize a tiny metric in your corner of an app. Here, you will drive the entire strategy, craft the narrative that explains your vision to the team, and build a sequenced, app-wide roadmap to bring your vision to the world.
You'll directly connect millions of people from around the world, leveraging the latest and greatest AI / ML technology. Despite being a small team, you'll have access to experiment with cutting-edge AI advancements to make our recommendation systems world-class.
You'll work collaboratively. You'll work closely with our CEO, Head of Growth, Head of Product, and other members of our leadership team to craft the vision, strategy and roadmap. You'll work regularly with senior data scientists, engineers, designers, and community leads on executing your roadmap.
You'll grow, teach, and improve rapidly. At Clubhouse you'll be working with an incredible team, who love to learn from and teach each other. You'll find yourself stretching to new areas, immersed in feedback, and growing your skills on a daily basis.
You'll create something meaningful. Social products allow people to connect in ways that were never before possible. When the telephone was invented, it suddenly allowed people to speak with others across the world. Thanks to FaceTime, grandparents everywhere can now watch their grandchildren grow up. At Clubhouse, you'll be figuring out something entirely new for the world-a positive product that brings people's voices together to help everyone have a life filled with great friendships.
What you can expect
As a member of our team, you can choose to work in person - at our beautiful, creative HQ in San Francisco - or fully remote. This position includes competitive base pay, a comprehensive health benefits package, company equity, 401k, plus additional benefits and stipends. The salary for this position is between $270,000 and $330,000. It may vary based on the applicant's level of experience, education, specialized knowledge, skills, and the market rate for similar positions. The salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
