The College of St. Scholastica company history timeline

1912

Although the designer is unknown, the phrase in the center of the design first appears in the graduation exercises program dated October 17, 1912, as the motto of that class.

The new hospital was built ten years after the start of the first hospital on 5th avenue East and 3rd Street and had additions added on to it from 1912 and the hospital is still adding more additions and newer buildings to their campus.

The school expanded its course offerings in 1912 to include a junior college and changed its name to The College of St Scholastica.

1914

1914 – Construction of the new building started on a bigger church lot in Singalong offered by Archbishop Harty.

1919

1919 – The first 3 AB students graduated.

1920

Later on it was reopened in 1920 as St Mary’s school of nursing, the building is still standing and has been converted into apartments.

1926

The first two baccalaureate degrees were granted in 1926.

1927

Excavation for completion of the frontal administrative unit of Tower Hall began in 1927.

1935

The first students graduated in 1935.

1947

1947 – After a period of reconstruction and renewal, the school re-opened its doors to the students.

1957

1957 – The school was granted its first accreditation by The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) and was made a chartered member of the association.

1973

Prior to 1973, the nursing department offices and some classrooms were located at Our Lady of Victory Hall, adjacent to St Mary's Medical Center, a sister Benedictine institution.

In 1973 the nursing department moved to the Science Center which has been recently expanded to offer a state-of-the-art skills lab for nursing students.

1975

WSCD-FM, a Minnesota Public Radio affiliate, began broadcasting from studios on campus in 1975.

1975 – St Scholastica’s College declared its commitment to social justice and peace, drew up a statement on the components of a socially-oriented school and adopted the theme: EDUCATION FOR JUSTICE.

1980

In 1980, St Scholastica established a study center in Louisburgh, County Mayo, Ireland, to enable students to complete a quarter’s liberal education course work while experiencing intercultural exchange, travel, self-reliance, and personal enrichment.

1985

1985 – An Introductory Course in WOMEN’S STUDIES was incorporated in all academic programs.

1991

Tarry Hall, the Home Management House, and the Greenhouse were all demolished in 1991-92 with the Wintergreen Garage/Maintenance Building built on that location.

1993

An expansion adjacent to Tower Hall was built in 1993 for Mitchell Auditorium and a student union.

2008

2008 – St Scholastica’s College articulated its thrust for the next decade: Education of Transformative Women Leaders.

2010

2010 – A College graduate topped (Rank 1) the Licensure Examinations in Guidance and Counseling
