1871

July 1, 1871: The first edition of The Daily Dispatch newspaper is published.

1895

1895: The paper moves to larger quarters at the northeast corner of Gay and High streets, and on April 10, a 72-page edition is published in celebration of The Dispatch’s new home.

1899

17, 1899: The Dispatch publishes its first Sunday edition.

1901

March 3, 1901: Color comics are published for the first time.

1905

1905: The Wolfe family buys the newspaper.

1907

April 9, 1907: While the newspaper is stationed at Gay and High, a fire strikes, destroying the plant.

1908

9, 1908: The first full page of "The Passing Show," cartoons and comment by artist Billy Ireland, is published.

1925

November 1925: Dispatch operations move from Gay and High into a new home at 34 S. Third St, across from the Statehouse.

1925: Milton Caniff begins work as a Dispatch artist.

1956

16, 1956: The "Cook's Corner" recipe exchange is launched and remains a popular feature to this day.

30, 1956: The first color pictures of an Ohio State football game are taken and published the same day.

1980

July 1, 1980: The Dispatch publishes the first "online" newspaper when it begins beaming news stories through the CompuServe dial-up service.

1983

1983: Popular wordsmith Mike Harden joins the staff.

1985

The library also has text-only stories from The Dispatch and other papers since 1985, and it hopes eventually to buy searchable images of Dispatch pages up to the present day.

1990

The new plant, 12 miles west of Downtown near I-270 and Georgesville Road, begins full service in January 1990.

1995

June 1995: The Dispatch announces it has a site on the World Wide Web.

1998

1998: The newsroom phases out film and now uses only digital cameras.

2010

He creates an alter ego, Aunt Gracie, who comments on the idiosyncrasies of life from the fictional Ohio town of “Methane.” He writes for the paper until his death in 2010.

2015

June 2015: The Wolfe family sells The Dispatch Media Group of publications to GateHouse Media.
