The Council on Recovery company history timeline

1974

The Cattaraugus County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse was incorporated on July 12, 1974 as a non-profit agency to provide prevention education, information and referral services.

1978

The first Board of Directors was elected in 1978.

1984

In 1984, with Board approval, the Council expanded its early intervention programs by adding a school-based substance abuse prevention/education program.

1991

The Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR) was founded in 1991 to collectively meet with other addiction oriented groups to build a coalition to support Licensing of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

1992

Prevention education became a larger part of the Council’s services in 1992.

1995

The Shelter Plus Care program, a federally subsidized housing program targeting homeless persons with a substance use disorder or mental health disorder diagnosis, began operation in 1995.

1999

Keeping with the Council’s record for meeting the changing needs of the community, an employee assistance program called Perspectives signed its first contract in April of 1999.

2019

In 2019, this service has expanded to our satellite clinic in Salamanca.
