The Doe Run Company company history timeline

1907

A banking crisis referred to as “The 1907 Panic” sets events in motion that create financial and borrowing challenges for the industrial community.

1917

His father started working in 1917 as a hand-shoveler and driller in Doe Run’s mines, then operated by the St Joseph Lead Company (St Joe).

1936

In 1936, Faircloth’s older brother was one of the first employees hired by St Joe after the Great Depression ended.

1950

Faircloth himself followed in the family footsteps, joining the company in 1950.

1953

The mine and mill begin operations in 1953

1971

Doe Run and its predecessors have received 28 Sentinels of Safety Awards since 1971.

1986

After 1986, Faircloth continued to serve Doe Run as a part-time contractor for 15 years.

He retired as a mine researcher in 1986, where he worked on improving machinery used in drilling and loading.

1991

By 1991, the Company regularly recovers ore from pillars, a first among underground room-and-pillar lead mines.

1999

By 1999, the pillar recovery program accounts for 60 percent of company revenue.

2003

By 2003, the smelter produces more than 130,000 tons of primary lead annually.

2010

Doe Run closes its Herculaneum lead smelter, the last primary lead smelter in the United States, in compliance with the 2010 agreement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

2012

The bridge opened in 2012.

2013

In 2013, Mississippi Sand is the first to ship products via a new port on the site.

2014

ST. LOUIS (July 9, 2014) – As The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, the company recognizes how employee commitment and strategic business planning have shaped its success throughout its history.

2018

Soil and Land Services LLC (S&L Services), along with others, is currently conducting the soil remediation efforts in the area, and in 2018 had completed remediation at 100 residential properties in St Francois County.

In addition, Doe Run donated valuable land to Herculaneum organizations in 2018.

In 2018, remediation crews filled and restored areas of ground subsidence, or settling, that had occurred in the upper level of the mine.
