1850

1850-William H. Bovee & Co.

1852

An 1852 ad for William Bovee’s coffee and spice mill, where James Folgers gets his first job in San Francisco.

1859

In any case, by 1859, nine years after his arrival in San Francisco, 24-year-old JA Folger was a partner in the coffee roasting business started by Bovee.

1865

Folger and Marden declared bankruptcy in 1865.

1881

1889

The company that James Folger Jr. took over when his father died in 1889 was one that any specialty coffee roaster of today could walk into and, apart from the historical context, feel right at home.

1906

Our building was the only coffee business to survive the Great San Francisco earthquake of 1906.

1915

The mountain image has been associated with Folgers canisters since 1915.

1953

Folgers Instant was released in 1953, but then was discontinued, as it was not up to customers' expectations.

1958

With time to create one superior to the rest, the new Instant Folgers was released in 1958 and experienced tremendous success.

1963

The success of Folgers Coffee over the years eventually attracted the attention of Procter & Gamble, who in early 1963 acquired Folgers Coffee and began to market it nationally under the Folgers coffee brand name.

1975

Folgers Crystals was introduced in 1975 with the "Tastes As Rich As It Looks" campaign.

2002

Our Folgers packaging experienced a major change in 2002.

2005

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, our Folgers plant and many of our employees' homes were severely damaged.

2008

Folgers Coffee came under the guidance of the J.M. Smucker Company in November 2008.

2013

According to Fortune, Folgers held the title for the number-one selling coffee company until Keurig finally passed it in 2013.

2019
