The Forward Association company history timeline

1950

At the helm, guiding the paper for a full half-century until his death in 1950, was Cahan.

1955

The Village Voice in New York City began publishing in 1955.

1974

The records of the Forward Association were given to the YIVO Archives by the Forward General Manager Paul Rubinstein in May 1974.

1983

In 1983 the paper cut back to a weekly publishing schedule and launched an English-language supplement.

1990

The English Forward was launched as a weekly in 1990.

2004

She previously covered the 2004 American presidential campaign, and served as Chicago bureau chief, education correspondent and education editor, and deputy on both the Metropolitan and International desks, before joining the masthead as Associate Managing Editor for Audience Strategy.

2008

After Goldberg decided to return to writing, the newspaper took another bold turn by appointing its first woman editor, Jane Eisner, in 2008.

2019

She is helping lead a transformation of the storied 123-year-old institution, which went digital-only in early 2019.
