Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements. Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students' performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development. Student Engagement & Advisement Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and support for learners. Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom. Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community. Project S.A.F.E. is an initiative across the City Colleges of Chicago to prevent and address gender-based violence (specifically dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking) by supporting campus-based coordinated responses that engage campus victim services, campus security, administrators, student organizations, and disciplinary boards. Project S.A.F.E. is funded by a grant from the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and aims to promote equity in education by reducing barriers to educational access for those affected by gender-based violence by centering on survivor safety, empowerment, and healing through a compassionate and intersectional approach. The purpose of the Project S.A.F.E. Peer Education Program is to empower students through peer-to-peer training on gender-based violence prevention and resources through the lens of mental health and community wellness. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE Reporting to the Campus Coordinator-Project S.A.F.E., Peer Educators (Project S.A.F.E.) will serve as student leaders who work to promote a cultural shift regarding gender-based violence on their campus and throughout their community. Peer Educators will receive training, participate in their campus Coordinated Community Response Team, support virtual and on-campus Project S.A.F.E. events and will have the opportunity to develop educational materials, present workshops to other students, and develop and publish social media content. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Completes mandatory Peer Educator Orientation on gender-based violence, bystander intervention, and suicide awareness. Engage with peers on campus to promote a campus culture of respect and safety by providing accurate information about healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and on-campus advocacy resources. Completes administrative and support tasks to support Project S.A.F.E. gender-based violence prevention and response programming. Engages in ongoing training and professional development to improve understanding of gender-based violence, barriers to accessing support, and disparate impacts on marginalized populations. Supports outreach efforts by developing programming materials, disseminating flyers, creating social media posts, and helping to coordinate Project S.A.F.E. events. Attends monthly campus Coordinated Community Response Team meetings and monthly districtwide Peer Education meetings. Advocates for mental health and safety on campus and works to reduce stigma related to gender-based violence and mental health.
