The Gryphon company history timeline

1937

1972

Associated International Insurance Co. had been founded in 1972, with headquarters in Los Angeles.

1982

That experience resulted in his first book, "The Book of Gryphons" (Apple-wood Books, 1982), a lavishly illustrated history of the eagle-lion beast.

1985

Gryphon Audio Designs was founded in 1985 as an offshoot of 2R Marketing, The first product, the now legendary Gryphon Head Amp, grew from a one-off spare time project developed only for the designers’ own home systems.

1987

Wrightson, a large British insurance concern, was absorbed by Willis Faber Group in 1987, and three years later Willis Faber merged with Corroon & Black to form Willis Corroon Group.

1989

Gryphon appointed Stephen Crane, who had been in charge of several different Willis Group divisions since 1989, as President and CEO of the new firm.

1991

Corporate offices were relocated to Hoboken, New Jersey in 1991.

1993

Gryphon's initial public offering of stock was on the NASDAQ exchange in December of 1993.

Following the immediate success of the Gryphon brand, all import business was phased out in 1993, so that Rasmussen could dedicate his efforts entirely to Gryphon.

The British-based Willis Corroon, then the fourth largest insurance company in the world, decided to get out of the United States underwriting business due to a lack of profitability in 1993, when it spun off Gryphon Holdings, Inc.

1994

During 1994, Gryphon began to implement a business plan intended to better integrate the two companies it owned.

1996

Gryphon Insurance Group Formed in 1996

Gryphon also made improvements beginning in 1996 to its computer systems.

1998

EE: Gryphon Networks was founded in 1998 in response to the growth of Do-Not-Call compliance legislation and the need for greater sales management visibility.

2000

One of the most influential and monumental works of the ancient age, the Naturalis Historia was compiled by Pliny the Elder from over 2000 tomes and hundreds of authorities, and is the only book of the many which Pliny had written which has withstood the test of Time.

2006

In the work, St Isidore classifies the Gryphon under "beasts of prey". Translation from Barney, A., Lewis, W., Beach, J., & Berghof, O. (2006). The Etymologies of Isidore of Seville.
